330d - smoke on start after a 3 day long soak period
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a '04 330d, which has started to puff out a small amount of smoke when started from cold, but only after it's been parked for 3 or so days?? A normal cold start, say after an over night soak, is fine, warm starts are fine, no smoke during any running etc. It certainly isn't starting on all 6 cyls evenly, and the smoke coresponds with the rough running. The smoke stops, probably 5 secs after start, there's no loss of engine oil, and the smoke smells "diesely" and is grey in colour
My thoughts are either:
1) if it's got glow plugs (?), has one died? (key-through starts don't seem any better / worse)
2) maybe a leaky injector that bleeds down over a period of days, and the first running cycles push this diesel out into the exhaust where is burns at a low temp and hence smokes??
anyone else come across this one??
(i don't really want to chuck a new set of injectors at it due to cost etc)
