Kudos to some of the owners on here who are willing to admit they took a hit.

I am looking for a 70's Kawa triple and the prices have only being going up recently. I would love to have one but would rather not take a 50% bath.

Any insights on price vs. original volumes?

There's a lot more to it I think. My '47 Chief and the X-75 Hurricane are near-as-dammit the same value (and the same agreed value with the insurance company). They have tracked each other fairly closely in the ups and downs (more ups than downs). There were 24,470 postwar Chiefs (1946-1949) which are pretty much identical to my '47. Lots more Chiefs manufactured pre-war and in the 50s, but they are very slightly different and a different appeal. There were only 1155 Hurricanes produced - between September 72 and January 73 so less than a 20th of the numbers...but the same value today.

So desirability alco comes it to it, and also the number of survivors amongst other things, not just production numbers.
