Someone, who clearly has no interest in bikes posts, an inflammatory post in Biker Banter regarding headlights and pull-away speeds at traffic lights. I, politely pull him up on it and various people who've never said a word in here before (ie non bike riders) pipe up and tell me to shut it.

That's whats up.

How do you think it would go down if I went into the BMW section and made sweeping generalisations about BM drivers for no real reason?

Amen. Public it may be, but a modicum of common sense should prevail.

Why is it that whenever someone posts on PH attacking the way a BMW drove, or a rep drove (for example), you DON'T get BMW drivers or reps defending that particular individual. Yet when someone criticises the way a biker behaved, quite a number (not all, I hasten to add) of bikers wade in with both feet firmly in their mouths??? Either some of the bikers here are the most insecure people on the forum, or they feel that the whole biking fraternity are somehow better than other road users, and beyond reproach.
Either way, it's frankly pathetic.

What's really pathetic is people like you (who don't even have bikes) who come in here purely to wind people up. Why are you here?

I didn't come here to wind bikers up - just you C2!
You seem to be a very blinkered and narrow-minded individual with far too high an opinion of his opinions, and an incapacity to recognise balanced, reasoned argument.

If you BOTHER to read my posts, not react in a knee-jerk manner based out of attitude and prejudice, then you MIGHT learn something...such as I have no brief against bikers (I am one of the drivers that DOES keep an eye open, DOES move out of the way, and DOES enjoy hearing a good bike on full-chat), only idiots on the road regardless of steed or attire.

If that is too much for you to deal with, then I suggest anger-management classes would be a good start!

No, I don't know you...and you don't know me either. And I apologise for the above post...it was a little too personal, as was your previous post at me.

So lets clear the air:-
1) The OP was using rather too much anti-bike invective to make his point - I fully agree with you there. But that happens often here (esp. on SP&L), and it shouldn't reduce the relevance of his point.
2) A bunch of bikers leapt down his throat (starting with you...actually your post there was borderline offensive) and, it appears, told him that bikers should be able to do what they want, including one threat of criminal damage (no smiley, it read as serious...hence my first post).
3) The reality is as per my second post - full beam can be dangerous to other road users in the wrong circumstances, is almost always inconsiderate, and IMHO does the user no favours (bike or car).
4) In all honesty this quickly turned into one of the bitchiest threads I have read on PH, hence my 3rd post.

So...has that clarified things a little? I enjoy a good debate, but abuse and vitriol is OTT, and that's what has happened here.

WGAF what a troll or troll friends think? does he really have that power?
"Spoke to some bikers on an internet forum and they said X" "Oh really then we will hate them too" hmmm not so sure life works like that.

Not sure if you're having a pop at me here or not, but actually I care what he and his mates thinks. I might be the next biker he carves up and put's in danger cause he's got the 'ump. I'd rather he left the site thinking he'll go out of his way for bikers, that's all.

No Chilli - I am NOT having a 'pop' at you.

I take issue with your belief that you will change this person's (troll) belief and send him away with a balanced and reasoned perspective. I base that on his original post. I challenge your opinion that he is able to influence his friends or associates!

Personally I couldn't give a fekk what people like that think, I gave up trying to change the world when I left Uni...

If he believes they're using main beam, then he has a point. Main beam is distracting and dazzling to other road users, and should only be used when no-one else will be affected.

Text book.

Yep. You ever wonder why it's in the text book??? Did you ever read said book (or the highway code?) and bother to think about what's in it?

A man who judges others by their job and their vehicles. Class act, clearly. Now was there a point to that post, or are you just trying to pick a fight on an internet forum (which has to be one of the most amusing concepts going!)???

[quote=sybaseian]What annoys me is ignorant/deliberate blocking by tinbox tossers. Do it to me and they will come off the worst. Why do you think that Bikers carry big security chains......

Ironic isn't it that your attitude is just the same as that of the car drivers you profess to hate. Can you spell 'hypocrisy'?!? Can you even comprehend that YOU might be the reason this thread got posted???

That proves there are some complete idiots on the road but I don’t think a full beam headlight would have helped in that situation.

Have to say I agree with the original poster, it is irritating and (usually) unnecessary to ride with dipped beam.

then you need to get with the times. Most modern bikes are sold _without_ an off switch for the lights (EU regs innit)....So we no longer have the choice to switch them off (not that I would, as even with lights on a day doesn't go by without some numpty tin-topper pulling out without looking)

As for the anti-biker forum, what a really constructive idea, NOT. Get a life.

Oops. Just come back to this thread and I see what you're getting at now, meant main beam. Don't know why I typed that, sorry all

Incidentally, the Anti-biker banter thing was a gently sarcastic comment, however it obviously went over certain peoples heads
