It must be me but the WTF is all this about the Desmoseideici? Really really just don't get it.

First of all its styled like a cross between an early jellymould CBR600 on badly fitting race bodywork and one of those dumb seal-like animals that live in Florida (keep getting hit by boats - Manatees?).

Second - pointlessly noisey - like a neighbour near me that's fitted a Racefit Growler to his GSXR.

Thirdly - bet its no quicker, faster than a 5 year old Jap litre bike.

Annoys me that I "should" lust after one for some reason. soapbox

Something cafe racer style like an NCR or Pierobon F042 floats my boat until you get to the wallet bit!

Sorry fella, but you're sooooofar off base here. Ride a Desmo in anger, and then comment. yes, theyare loud, have questionable looks and are mainly bought by people who have a Simoniz fetish.
But, ride one and all is revealed. They are stupendous. as quick as a 5 year old jap bike? with 200bhp? i think not. The chassis is a phenomenon, so tight it would make you weep. If this is the closest we'll ever getto riding a Moto GP machine, then i can shuffle off this mortal coil a happy man.
I'm fortunate here that i have a lot of friends/aquaintances who love their toys. Hence i've ridden a Desmo, in anger, an NCR Millona One Shot (the guy has 3!!) Bimota's, David Checa's R1 from a couple of years ago, 1098R's KTM RC8R etc. The NCR's are hilarious. Quick in a very deceptive way, so light they just hoof of the corners. Clinton pienaar, who just did his first IOM raced one in the BOTTS series and was quicker than the 1098R's, admittedly on the tighter, smaller tracks. The engineering is stonking. But, a Desmo in full war cry, with the race pipes?
putting aside my love of the marque, we should applaaud them for releaing such a machine for general consuption. Is it 3 times as good as the average Jap 1000 price vs price.? hell yeah, and then some. It's a bargain.
Oh, and fit the BST wheels, and recalibrate the electronics with the many modsavailable now, and you have the whole smorgesbord of tyres to choose rom, as the OE is pretty crap.
BassGT3 nicely put!
