I did tack this on the end of an old PH2 thread from 2011 but thought it would be better seen as a separate thread, cheers.

I sold my Street Triple due to so many theft attempts back in 2015 and ended up with a 2009 Vespa GT 300.

My first scooter after 37 years of riding bikes.

I bloody loved it. Twist and go, pretty quick and some weather protection. I was much quicker in traffic than 90% of the other bikes and scooters, using my ol dispatch rider senses, and I could chuck all my gear under the seat and in the top box and walk around looking normal and even put on some decent shoes.

I moved out to Surrey where it was not as much fun on the commute. Fine on the A roads but scary at night on the dark B roads where the tiny wheels couldn't deal with potholes and the headlight was useless.

I started getting maxi scooter envy whenever a T Max blasted past.

My Vespa went walkies whilst I was moving back to London and now, 4 months later, I need a powered 2 wheeler back in my life and I think maybe the T Max is it.

Thing is, their price!! Even secondhand they command big money.

Earlier in the PH2 thread it's mentioned that the £8k 2011 model will be around £4k after 3 years.

Seems they are around £3k to £4k even now, 7 years later.

So still worth it? If I can have the ease and fun of my Vespa coupled with more stability at motorway speeds, bigger wheels and decent lights, should I buy one?

Anyone that owns one, do tell me what you think. Ta.

ETA I do realise that the theft attempts won't stop with the T Max, in case anyone mentions it biggrin

Does it have to be a scooter?

Plenty of less desirable Japanese bikes to get you back on 2 wheels, low insurance and can sleep without wondering if they'll still be there in the morning..

True.

I took my BiL's ol dog of a CBF600 out the other day.

Despite looking like it's been abandoned, it's still been nicked.......twice.

Always discovered nearby when the idiots realise it's worthless.

They're comfy at 100 mph, so motorways are not a problem; a small fuel tank is!

You can get larger replacement screens for better weather protection.

IIRC the front end was off the R6 so they go ok and basically upset the heck out of people because its a scooter that doesn't act like one.

I remember seeing lots of them when they first came out, around the Alps, SoF, Italy and no-one seemed to be having any trouble.

Awesome commuter and just jump on and ride machine. It has a twin spar chassis and cradled engine like a normal motorbike, so it really isn't a scooter. And it handles superbly well. I ran one as my daily over 10-12k miles, and it was brilliant. The only downside is because the engine is cradled, underseat storage was not sufficient to hold a helmet.

I want one or a X Max 300/400. Only problem is I don't need anything that big or fast as I only do 3 miles across town. Think it would actually be worse to filter on than the SH125 I have too.

I've got a Xmax 300, great for daily duties and yeah under seat storage is so nice to have.

It's nowhere near as fast as the tmax but with 30hp it'll do motorways with no problems.

If i was to buy again i think i'd go for the 400 as it's a bit more powerful and has twin discs.

XMax is a totally different thing to the TMax. Xmax is a traditional scooter with a swingarm mounted engine. TMax is a motorbike in drag.

I know scooters are frowned in this forum but they really are the best option for getting into central London from the 'burbs. I have an Xmax 300 and it is spot on. The extra size, price and nickability of the Tmax wouldn't help me.

However if I lived another 5-10 miles further out into Surrey I reckon an Xmax 300 would struggle a bit to be stable in cross-winds at 75mph and it just wouldn't feel as secure. Up to 65mph on dual carriageway it's great. I'm not sure what you gain with the 400 is worth as apparently the storage space is less.

I reckon I might be looking at an NC750x in your situation OP. Boring as the engine might be I don't think it's any worse than a scooter plus with DCT and the tank storage pretty much as practical. Half the price of a Tmax and probably a lot less nickable. Stick a fruity can on it and they sound pretty decent too.

I have a GS too and every time I think I don't need the scooter I remember filtering in tight spaces and the extra faff involved and that the Xmax is £83 per month on PCP and gets 80mpg and am happy with my decision.

Honda X-ADV might be worth a look. Like the T Max it's a bike posing as a scoot - but you could save a lot of cash by going for the NC750 in the first place.

yes One of the only scoots that I actually like the look of & has mega reviews. That said, I wonder how long it would last before being nicked.....

I've always fancied a BMW C-EVO and keep checking prices but still pretty expensive, probably because they're so rare.
