How about using a Mr. Spock style Vulcan sign? It could show we're Pistonheads addicts, that we like V8's, and is easily added to a more general wave, for those who don't inhabit the sub-culture of these murky depths. So, that's a wave, quickly followed by the Vulcan greeting - or is that a bit Trekky-Geeky?

(I suspect Ted's about to start flogging us Pistonheads stickers, hats, tee-shirts etc!)
