I'd had my 2010 Octavia VRS (2.0T TSI engine) for a month and 3,000 miles when the engine management light came on. Sent it back to the supplying Skoda dealer to investigate and they came back to say they had found a fault with a sensor on the inlet manifold and they were replacing the whole inlet, not just the sensor. Seems a bit overkill for a faulty sensor and just wondered if this was a common occurrence on this engine or if they are hiding/preventing a bigger issue?

Its being done under warranty so no cost concerns, my only worry is that the dealer is a 400 mile round trip away as my local Skoda dealer wouldn't touch it under the extended warranty and I don't want to have to make the trip again.

Depends. If it was just the intake air temp sensor, then yes, that's a cheap and simple job. If it's the motor that controls the tumble flaps, then yes, replacing the whole intake would be the default dealer fix. It's cheaper to replace the whole darn lot than paying a few technicians, by the hour, to poke around with a screwdriver hoping for the best.
