Airplane mode turns of the sensors like GPS so the phone doesn't know where it is. Who the hell puts their phone on airplane mode over night as well? literally put it on silent.

No, go and research it yourself. Google timeline is not meant to be accurate - in fact if it was I'd turn it off! It's more for seeing which towns/countries you've been in, and often, it's guessing your location with data that is NOT GPS.
