i do see what your saying, but heres the comparison in specs...

macbookpro £1000
Core2Duo 2.4
256mb NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics

Alienware M11x £1100
i7 1.2
1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M

I do think the mac looks better, but in terms of performance the macbook isn't even in the same league in the slightest. And lets face it, if you like MacOSX, then you can put other OSs on the M11x

For what the OP want's, I'd advice an Alienware or an XPS.

My colleague has a XPS 13" and it's a very very capable piece of kit.
The Alienware will be in a league of his own altogether.

That said, I'd take the extra year warranty every time (3 years).
