Webcamming

Ta, I have one on my iMac now and find it usefull. I discuss and work with a handfull of designers (print / internet) and a phone all of a sudden is so . . . bloody old fashioned.

FTR: I'm not in an office and work alone.

Except for the obvious porn thingies, what do you use it for . . . or do you folk use it at all?

I dont use mine much, but i have used it when talking to my sister/cousins while at uni, and also with the gf on occation.
- But largly it just gathers dust looking like i got it free with a computer about 10 years ago.

I speak to a mate of mine in Japan on it. They have experimented with using them at work but I can't see the point - I can use my mobile as a bluetooth webcam if it gets popular and I can be bothered to set it up...

It's easier to use the mobile while having fag break outside the building than it is to smoke and carry the laptop as well

use it to talk to the gf while we are both at uni. other than that i talk to my chum in thailand a bit. hopefully when everyone has decent internet speeds the quality will get better.

I use Apples iChat quite a bit for this. Mostly just for audio, much like Skype. But sometimes vid too. Usually works extremely well with great quality. But due to my numpty-like networking skills. I seem to have borked something, so now the quality is often a bit rough.
Still, its very useful and a great way to keep in contact with folks all over the planet. By some strange feat, I seem to mostly have friends with Macs. So iChat is ideal (Although it does vid chats to AIM PC users too).
