Well, just after I got bored of waiting and bought a 920 it looks like the Windows Phone version of the Pureview 808 is incoming. It has reached the stage of photographs "leaking" to interested websites. The camera spec looks identical to the Pureview although there seems to be confusion as to whether it will be dual core or quad core.

Fortunately I am on O2 refresh so I can go out and help myself to one of these beauties

Best guess of the specs

• 41 MP camera with Xenon flash
• Nokia Pro Camera
• 32 GB internal
• OLED Screen 768X1280
• WP8 V 8.0.10322.71
• FM radio
• Flip to silence
• Polycarbonate body
• Takes a 35 MP picture and a 5 MP picture at the same time one to save one to share
• Comes in yellow
• No SD card
• About 1 mm thinner than Lumia 920 with a big camera hump
• No visible OS changes

Could someone please explain to me the point of a 35MP camera on a phone with that tiny lens?

Or even the point of a 35MP camera outside a professional studio?
It uses the high megapixel sensor to produce a smaller image by over sampling (combining adjacent pixels), this reduces noise etc. a high pixel count also allows lossless zooming in videos.

What's the apps and games situ like with the Windows Phones these days? Looking over on Android forums, you can now get some really good games titles to play on the phone.

I found all of the stuff I used or a decent alternative. The last holdout for me was iplayer which has just been added. The above link is to an Android app which scans what you have and links to equivalents in the Windows Phone store, I don't know how good it is but should give you an idea.

Looks like most of the specs have leaked ahead of the reveal in a couple of hours...

It'll need the 32MB to hold a decent number of pics as its taking two at at time!
There is apparently a 64gb version... unfortunately it carries on with Nokia's policy of carrier exclusivity.

Shame O2's coverage isn't all that...

Any idea on prices yet - I cant see it being a cheapie
Nothing official, I would guess the same as the 920 when it was released with the 64gb £50 more? The press conference is ongoing so I would imagine the networks will release pricing later today.

Wanting some more details on this - will it have the same ND filter as on the 808? Stereo audio recording - and just as importantly - microphone placement? And until I've seen independent examples ....

It'll be a good camera upgrade for most people, unless you happen to own an 808, in which case it'll be a sideways move smile
Don't know about the ND filter but it says that the phone has stereo rich recording, I don't know whether that means 2 mics or not?

Ah, I didn't pick up that the sensor was slightly smaller than the 808. Can you get a decent depth of field effect with your 808?

But the thing is, this EOS will have a good camera but be fairly average at everything else, I suspect the Honami will be great at most things.
Why do you imagine it will be fairly average at everything else?

OK this one is excellent. The dynamic range is superb and compares with the kind of stuff I would be happy to send a customer. I would love to download a full-size version to see the level of detail properly. Maybe if my camera packs up on a job I can use my 1020 and downscale it to match the D800E we normally use hehe

Ok found one, first the D800E whole picture and crop to about 800 pixels from the middle, then the same with a Lumia 1020 full-rez picture. The D800E is a full-rez high quality JPEG processed from a RAW and I tried to choose one with a similar field of view

The fact that it even bears comparison is incredible to me. Suprisingly the focus from the 1020 doesn't fall off too badly into the corners either. Hope this is interesting for you.

You never saw any images from the 808, did you? The 808 has had this level of clarity (arguably more if some are to be believed) and has been on the market for a year.
Yeah, I was on the verge of buying one and read all the reviews. I wasn't implying that the 1020 was the first with this level of quality. smile

Interesting comparison between the 1020, 808, S4 zoom and 925. Personally I'm waiting for dpreview.com as they have confirmed they are working on an in-depth test

Do you reckon it is a case of firmware tweakery or something more substantial needed?
