Is this the same as Windoze re-set to earlier time, and if it is, is it Ok for a numpty like me to use it?

I've been having problems with Farmville (yes, I know I'm sad) locking up and was wondering if re-setting to a month ago would clear it?

So, does going back in time get rid of glitches like the windoze one does? and if so, how do you go back to an earlier setting?

So how do you go back you an earlier time?

There's nothing on the "help" page that tells you how.

Sorry, I think you're missing the point. I haven't lost a file, folder or anything, I want to set the whole shebang back a couple of months, which was quite easy to do on windows, but time machine doesn't give any clues on how to do it on a Mac.

Sorry if I'm being stoopid.

;o)

Nope. Told you I was stoopid. When I put "time" it goes to setting the clock, which is fine.

No, I've got Time Machine on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Circular clock-type thing with an anti-clockwise arrow on the face. When I click it, it goes to a screen with a switch "off" on the left, "on" on the right.

It then goes to choose back up disc, If I then clock on the icon, it goes to set up time capsule. I don't want a time capsule, I want to revert to an earlier setting, I think. But I can't find how to do it.

Sorry if I appear to be wasting your time, but I'm just going round in circles and I don't want to do anything to bugger the thing up, because I'm not at all "techie".

Ah! No, nothing set up. I'll have a look. Thanks for the tip.

No doubt I'll be back, or words to that extent.

Looks like I'm stuffed, then. It comes up with "a newer version of Airport Utility is available"

What the F is that?

Airport utility is simply the software to control the Time Capsule.
Ah, that should be safe then.

No, no external device, so why can't I go back to an earlier setting?

It was easy with Windoze, but seems a pain in the rear on the Mac.
Otherwise I like the thing.

Oh, and the graphic on the top tool bar doesn't show.

Um.

Well, I've uploaded some updates from Apple that I hadn't, and that has resolved a few "issues", and a few things are working that weren't before, or were jamming the system that now aren't.

But it doesn't explain my first question/presumption that there would be a facility to default to an earlier setting, which I now know there isn't unless you do it yourself, which, had I known, I would have done from the outset.

I don't have a vast amount of "work" that is not stored elsewhere, so I don't need a secondary back-up, as that is the original source material, that I can always re-load.

I was initially impressed by the mac, I suppose I still am, but when the hackers get in, then I will view it as an overpriced windows alternative, with less numpty friendliness.

As I said, I'm no pooter expert, I don't do things if I think there's the slightest chance of them going wrong, because I don't know how to correct the mistake. The IT dept at work go mad at me from time to time but at least they know I don't create major problems, because I stop as soon as I think I've ball'sd up. Which is why I've asked you good fellows for advice; I don't know, if I did I wouldn't ask.

Thank you for your patience, I'll no doubt help you on something I do know about in the future.

So how do I do it, given that the OS doesn't exactly scream "help this way" at me?

Gimme a few mins, and I'll do some screen grabs...

So, as I don't feel I need an external hard drive for storage, basically the Mac doesn't have "System Restore" (finally remembered what the utility was called) on it anywhere.

Thanks for all your replies, as you can see, it's a bad idea for some people to be turned loose on a computer!

I'm not really THAT concerned if the thing blows up, because all the stuff that we want to keep is also either on memory cards or CD's anyway.

I was just wondering if OSX (see something else I've learned) had a system retore, obviously it has but in a different way (typical Apple). I've installed some updates that have appeared since Monday, which have pretty much solved the gliches I've been having.

Do you expect all cars to have the same user interfaces (should they all have iDrive for example, heaven forbid hehe) or do you spend time getting used to a new car's systems when you get it? Why would a new computer be any different?
Horses for courses. I'm not at all interested in how the computer works, just that it does work.

I realise that may be sacrilidge to some computer users, but there we are.

Crashing my computer is hardly likely to cause person injury, after all! ;o)

If it dies, it goes in the bin and I'll get a new one.

Isn't Farmville a Flash-based browser game?

If so what's it got to do with Apple, Time Machine or OSX?
I don't know, that's why I came on here for advice as to what to do/should I do, and if anybody could "shine a light" on solving my problem.

As I've said before, I'm not really clued up/interested in the technical stuff, just asking for the largesse of the PH pooter club in pointing me in the right direction, which, generally you all have been of help, for which I thank you.
