Sublime Pandamonium II
Discussion
Have you ever had one of those days where you overcome a hurdle to be met by a wall?
After a little persuasion I managed to get the 750 gearbox out of Guff II.
The plan is to fit the Cinquecento five speed box so I have a little more than 95mph flat out.
I knew I'd need to make custom mounts.
The rear is a simple combination of the two existing ones.
All good so far but no matter how I tired the gearbox refused to fit properly.
So I took the mount off and with the gearbox on my jack lined up the diff' to the hubs...
...to see what was going wrong.
The extra gear sticks out and fouls the lower arm.
The back of the gearbox fouls the bulkhead.
Hmmmmmmm.... So I'm either stuck with the four speed or need to replace the whole lot.

This stuff...
...is brilliant. Smells like Unicorn tears and does this...
...to thirty year old paint.
The original plan was to mirror polish the wheels and fit the NCT2's, but...
...two wheels only had lacquer, two had paint, lacquer and patched of oxidisation; but one had six layers of paint and primer and once they were stripped back the surface of the wheel looked like Apollo Eleven was about to land on it.
So paint prep' it is. Lucky I'm working the next three nights and can take them to a couple at a time.
No I need to decide what colour. Expect that to take another month.

Where did you get that stuff from? I bought a tin Nitromors a couple of months back and it not only looked like Swarfega, it had about the same paint removal capabilities as Swarfega i.e. virtually none. Seems the chemical in the original Nitromors (which actually worked) has been outlawed for general sale.
I've noticed that as well. My local paint suppliers CR Motors. I don't think they deliver but I can if you want some.
A quick once over with a wire wheel and some wet and dry...
...I'm going to need some serious high build primer.
I was thinking of gunmetal with a Fantasia green pinstripe around the rim but all that would do is highlight the thirty five years or so of curb damage. Just a decent coat of colour and protective lacquer then.

Okay-ish or as we say in rural Norfolk; "fair to midlin'".
Perfect is the enemy of "good enough" Two coats of lacquer and every single flying insect within a mile radius descends on my shed. Grrrr!
But this...
...could be the best £3.99 I've ever spent.
It's that time of the year again. Twilight to dark on my way into work, and twilight on my way home from night shift. Typically the drive lights didn't work due to crap on the relay terminals. As soon as I got them working the fuse for the drivers side headlight went.
Nothing says "I own a Fiat" more than preparation.

In exchange for valeting two of my mates cars he fitted the tyres to my wheels for me.
One of the balancing weights got knocked off by the rear shock and all was well until my sister who has lost enough weight to be medically overweight instead of morbidly obese needed a lift to the Post Office.
Lucky I have a spare brake drum in my shed...
...luckier I kept hold of my 10mm spacers and longer wheel studs...
...and even luckier I have a bucket full of every bolt I have taken off every car I have owned so I have some 10mm longer 12mm bolts to hold the spacers in place.
Not quite hubcentric but a lot safer than just using the wheel studs.
At lest the rim is clear of the shock and inner arch now. No more heavy loads though. So it's lucky I'll have my Panda 4x4 van for that sort of thing soon.

By sister-in-norfolk, do you mean 'wife'?
Probably, if the rumours are trueI think I'm adopted as I'm the only one in my family who's remotely fit and has taste in cars. Obviously dad worked for Lotus and that's we mover over to this tropical little island but the whole time he was there he drove a tweaked MkII Cavalier.

Nice project and one of the rarest and desirable Pandas out there. Worth £3,000 when done maybe more if concourse. My Fantasia's first show...
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.1797830...
...wasn't the newest, wasn't the ropiest and it was a group of like minded guys and gals with no concourse egotism and an eclectic mix of classic, retro and modern stuff. The next event will be during the Easter bank holiday weekend. Hopefully I'll have more to show and a lot more to tell.

So what else have I been up to? I've borrowed Guff II's headlights because they have the H4 adapters fitted...
...because Kev' (van of death) had a set of H4 HID's for a tenner.
I was going to do a "how to" series of photo's but you are basically changing a set of bulbs and it would come across as pedantic.
L.E.D side lights only as the dim/dip setting makes HID's strobe.
Silver/Chrome indicator bulbs so I don't have those orange caplets showing through the lenses.
A nice clean white dip...
...that is penciled a lot better than more expensive kits and even though they aren't any brighter the cleaner light increases visibility from all angles.
High beam is a little disappointing but that's why I have drive lamps.
