Hi, I have a MY00 C4 (996). My air conditioning has been making a noise recently and now it does not provide any cold air at all.

I took it into a dealer and they say it is because the condenser unit is leaking - probably damaged by a stone. In addition they advise changing the dessicator/drier too.

Anyway, I was hoping you could tell me :

1. Where is the condenser unit? and can it gat damaged by a stone?

2. Does the advice on also needing to change the dessicator/drier unit if the condensor is changed sound correct?

Many thanks in advance!

Having had all of the above done under warranty on my 993 very recently(probably similar set up to 996) this does all sound correct.

The 993 condenser is forward of the left wheelarch and the pu needs removing to gain access. Stones do indeed mash it up, but they do rot and the dealer speak for rotted but we dont want to pay out on the warranty is to suggest stone damage. The dessicator and fan resistor are generally done at the same time (minimal parts cost etc and also parts which fail)

I would ask to see the stone damaged parts....

Expect about £900 for the complete job on a 993.
