Good work, happy to be part of it!

My 2024 plans are in the 2023 thread already.
Looking forward to the new equipment being launched soon, got my eye on the Ping G430 10k to replace a 2022 Rogue ST Max.

Really impressed with all the Ping stuff I've purchased

Focus this year is to get my handicap down to sub 20. Back having lessons again, and my coach thinks it should be easy to get there.

The plus point is there is a driving range 5mins from my house so no excuses not to get out and practice once a week at the bare minimum.

Happy new year all.

Managed to get a game in yesterday between the rain. Made a promising start to the year with a 78 despite 3 putting the 1st hole and making double on 12 banghead

Goals for the year.
Carry over from last year is an under par round at my home course.
Make my score ceiling in the high 70s rather than low 80s. Which should get me under a 5 index. Picking up a bit of distance will help, but hitting fewer fat irons should help more.

Play more courses, and help the boy get better.

Achieved a hcp low of 4.0 in Oct/Nov last year and currently sit at 4.6, so hoping to keep at this level. Not sure I can get it much lower without adding distance to all of my game but will be trying to get stronger at the gym over the coming months and see if this converts to better golf.
Above is what I wrote at the start of 2023.

Hit a new PB low handicap of 3.5 during the year and currently sit at 3.9. Not played for 6 weeks and with the current weather it's looking like range only golf for the next couple of weeks.

Have joined a golf course, Mill Green on their flexible membership. From this I'll be looking to make my handicap official, although with no recent golf I'll be happy for it to sit in single figures as my game suffers through the winter.

Purchased a new set of irons. Need a full season but my new handicap PB was from using the new irons. Work commitments got in the way of the gym so not seen any benefits of going down this route.

Have a week of golf in Cyprus in May. Can't wait for some warm weather golf

Hny all

Was round the corner from mill green, moved to Peterborough now. Used their grass range all the time. The course has improved a lot last couple of years

Got a couple of games tentatively arranged

Goals this year.. continue to tinker with swing. That’s it really, that’s where the fun is for me, and for the first time I’ll have a garden net which will help.

HNY all beer

Started '23 on 13.5, worst point was 14.9 in June (?!) and somehow managed to finish the year on 12.4. I think a combination of getting a twinge in my lower back and figuring out this was caused by poor swing posture, (so am now stood up more rather than before where I was far too flexed at the knees), and changing my arm-lock putter to a regular length lab link putter have been the main factors in playing a bit better. Certainly, consistency has come on quite a bit - which I'm over the moon about.

'24 goals - Going to try hard to get down to 10 and outside chance of 9.x - I fully realise this means I actually need to turn my skytrack on and use it... No excuses.

Golf in Spain in June and will in Portugal for more of the same later in the year. Right now it's rain gloves, multiple layers & a flask of tea - which I know we all enjoy very much, whilst losing balls just off the fairway, nestled under a pile of leaves...

I would absolutely love to get to single figures this year, but sitting at 18.4 currently, that may be unlikely. So instead I'll aim to get below 14. 12 would be lovely. First objective, though, will be to get all my 20 scores in. That will give me a much better idea of where I currently sit. I think I have about 8 in at the mo.

My ball striking is going from strength to strength on the range lately, and I'm getting more consistent with driver. Got Dan Grieve's book for my birthday at the end of November, so I want to start working on that proper.

Also, I'd love to play more rounds with you guys! 2024 should be the year of the first PH meetup.

Golf has become a distant memory here in Powys, course has been closed almost every day for the last fortnight, unbelievable amounts of rain and it's still sluicing it down. Let's spare a thought for those who don't have a roof over their heads right now.

When it comes to goals, it's hard to think about anything other than numbers. i.e. get my hcap down, take fewer putts etc. Especially so with Arccos in the bag (which has been great for me this year - would definitely recommend).

But it is interesting looking back to last year and recognise that golf might not really be about the numbers for me - i.e.:

Did I enjoy my lowest rounds of 2023 the best (in some ways I did) or was it actually the people and places that I remember more than the score I made - I think its actually the latter.

So I think my actual goals are going to be :
  • 1) Getting more golf with people I know
  • 2) Always take a moment to remember that I'm here to enjoy it
  • 3) Hit some nice shots as part of the round
If I achieve this, then I can use the data / numbers as I'm going along and hope the score improves as a by product but to try and care a bit less about what each shot means to my score or handicap.

Oh and to practise the short game more......

New to the thread but i'm going to try and get back into golf. Haven't played for 15 years or so but with more and more family members getting into it, I think my time has come laugh

Picked up some clubs before Christmas and have hit the range a couple of times, i'm not as bad as I thought I would be, but I can't hit a driver for toffee!

More practice and lessons needed for sure.

He says, as he goes back to the 2023 thread and makes it 509 hehe

To add to my goals, I really want to play some more new courses this year. I haven't played many in the local area, and I've also really enjoyed my trips away. If that includes playing abroad, even better

I’ve got the Rogue ST Max & can’t imagine replacing it yet. Let me know how the new Ping performs! Recent got myself a Paradym triple diamond 3 wood & it’s a bit of a beast!

Only real goal is to get down to around a 10 if I can, currently off around 12 so isn’t too much of a stretch. Single figures is the dream! Probably lining up a lesson or two in Feb.

Other goal is to cruise at 170 ball speed. Currently around 165, up from 160 last year, so going in the right direction.

It’s difficult to get card in at the moment. If I were you I would put one in every time you play if conditions allow. It gets more scores on your record and I find it helps me to keep trying if the wheels start to fall off.

Your ball striking is certainly good enough to get to 12 with a bit of consistency and good shot selection.

We definitely need a get together this year. I’m sure we can at least manage a couple of mini Cambridgeshire meets if nothing else.

Will do. Tested the G430 LST and Max last year but not extensively. LST was long but slightly too low on the spin numbers so hoping the 10k is a little better. Not expecting miracles but a few more yards will help..

Happy New Year folks! Didn't realise I'd posted quite so often in last year's thread - between the amount I played the game and how often I clearly talk about it, I see why Mrs Bodhi calls me obsessed hehe

Anyway main goal for 2024 is to get my current 8.8 handicap down, preferably to something starting with a 5. I didn't come down as far as I was hoping last year, but to maintain an 8 handicap whilst having lessons isn't to be sniffed at I guess.

However I'm not going to get too focused on a number - just carry on with the lessons, keep practising and enjoy myself, then see where I end up.

Other than that, play as many courses as possible and a few more Open competitions, and of course try to get a game with the kind people from this very thread smile

Happy New Year all.

My goals are going to be simple and similar to last year...

- play more golf (I played 74 full rounds last year at 31 different courses)

- shoot a level par round (best was +4 last year despite being - 2 after 8)

- speed training, before I started I was at 119/120 swing speed, looking to get to around 125 and hopefully see that 300 carry (current best is 292)

And just keep playing some top courses in the UK and Spain.
