Perhaps it is time to start discussing the upcoming electric Alpine A290 hot hatch on this forum also.

A290 will be officially revealed on 13 June 2024 in Le Mans. Here is the short Alpine press release related to A290 release date:

https://media.alpinecars.com/alpine-a290-official-...

A290 will be based on the same platform as recently introduced Renault 5 EV.

Who is interested in buying the A290? What people think about A290? Other comments related to A290?

Based on the fact that nobody has commented anything in here it seems like A290 doesn't seem interesting to current A110 owners for example?

Personally I have two cars, 2022 A110 and 2019 Fiesta ST. A110 is my daily driver in summer and in winter it stays in winter storage. Fiesta ST is my winter car which is also called to duty occasionally in summer when I need to carry more stuff or people and I'm planning to replace that with something else quite soon. At the moment top 2 options for me to replace Fiesta are either Megane IV RS or this new upcoming Alpine A290.

The A290 seems interesting to me and I have nothing against EVs. However since it would be a winter car for me and the expectation is that when temperatures drop to way below zero (-20C for example, which is very realistic here in Finland) the range of an electric car might drop to half compared to warmer weather. That is my biggest concern with A290 (and all the other EVs) which might mean that it doesn't really fit to my use case (or I would have to have a third petrol car to enable longer drives in winter and a third car is not realistic option for me).

In general I think that the A290 looks very promising. I like hot hatches and have owned several of them and it's nice to see an interesting electric hot hatch coming to market.

An electric Renault hatchback. Can't say it does anything for me in all honesty

Pretty much this.

Besides if you bought one with a Renault badge on it instead of an Alpine badge and you need a spare part you may actually get one.

A hatchback makes a great pairing to an A110 as you already know - and if you can make one work, an EV version even more so. Minus 20 would be a big stretch however; you could pre-condition the battery overnight but once out in the wild it might be quite limiting (and less cost effective than you might think).

I like the A290 but I'll be interested to see what it brings over the regular Renault 5 - which already looks great. Unsure if I need/want both cars to sport the same badges, and if the R5 is a more successful EV (in terms of efficiency/practicality) I'd probably prioritise that over a sharper chassis tune. Tools for the job, if you like.

Both will be quite conventional in terms of layout/materials/technology so they'll need to trade heavily on image, affordability and (in the case of the A290) driving experience. Those would need to be quite compelling to tempt me out of a BMW i3S (which in mass production terms is an absolutely wild vehicle, but also works brilliantly and is quite a bit of fun in its own right).

I have a Tesla Model 3 Performance as a daily and I actually really enjoy driving it, despite its weight it handles well and is so easy to drive. The A110 is for pure pleasure and is a joy to use when I am going to a suitable place, ie down a windy road.

So I would say there are fun EV's out there that are great daily's and maybe this will handle really well and add some fun to the boring daily drive.

So I would consider one although I think it maybe a bit on the small side for someone 6'6".

Does anyone know how to get access to the launch at Le Mans?

As an alpine owner I’m keen to have a look and I’ll be there - anyone have any contacts?

I’m very interested and paid a deposit last year.
I’m not convinced about EV’s but also not anti them,
I’ve owned many Renault sport models over the years ( turbo 1, Clio V6, GT Turbo etc) owned my A110 for 4 years
Awaiting launch spec and prices with interest.

Thanks for that you’re very kind, one of my fellow Le Mans goers is going to contact him. :-)

Hello! I have been after an A110 for a few months now but have now decided to wait until June and order a brand new A290 for the same price as a second hand A110 of 3-4 years old! I will keep my current ice car and have the A290 for city driving. Can't wait although I have never ever had any interest in electric vehicles before.

I suppose that's one of the siuations Alpine will have to think of when pricing the A290; as given the choice between a new A290 or a used A110, many would go with the A110.

I spoke to alpine Aberdeen and they reckon the A290 will be around 30k mark. I agree it's a tricky decision to make as I do like everything about the A110.

I would be surprised if the A290 prices would start from around 30 thousand GBP. That seems to be approximately 35 tEUR and since the base model Renault 5 is promised to start from around 25 tEUR I would estimate that the higher end Renault 5 prices to be nearer to 35 thousand EUR. Therefore my personal guess is that A290 starting price would be in the region of 40 thousand euros. We'll see.
