MG Cyber GTS Concept previews Cyberster coupe

A new MG roadster wouldn't be complete without a coupe companion - a GTS suggests it's coming soon

Consider this something of a scoop. Ahead of a reveal at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later, we’ve seen the MG Cyber GTS Concept in the first glance paddock. Very little has been released by MG about it thus far, though it doesn’t requite amazing powers of deduction to see it previews what a hardtop, 2+2 Cyberster could look like.

To these eyes it’s a very encouraging look at what a future MG coupe could be, tauter and more aggressive than the soft top while still retaining some quite pretty details. The rear light in particular seems to really suit the rump of a long nose, short-tail sports car. Dark green will always help a favourable impression, especially when paried with white wheels like a proper old hot rod, though this week more than ever it’s nice to see an electric coupe that actually seems like a small(ish), rear-drive sports car.

In among the crowds that are already descending on FoS, it’s hard to glean very much more about the Cyber GTS Concept for now. Expec additional details to follow with a full reveal later. The Cyberster soft top gets 340hp as a single-motor, rear-drive Trophy or more than 500hp as an AWD GT. Should something like the GTS make production, using those powetrains - or perhaps something even more potent - seems likely. Given the momentum currently behind MG and the production ready look of the concept, don’t be surprised if the GTS is a roadgoing reality very soon. If Porsche are doing an electric sports car in both formats, so can MG. More as we have it.

A lot of F-Type DNA in the exterior and interior.

Front overhang looks a bit long, especially given the fact they don't have to shoehorn a big engine in there.

Rear end look good though and I'm a big fan of green cars.

Maybe it's just me but the rear looks a bit 'new' Griffith.

When that was announced (1987?) You would have gotten good odds on MG releasing a 500 hp coupe before it being available for sale!

I never thought I would say this but I could see myself in that. Who'd have thought the Chinese could make a desirable EV when the legacy European car makers can't?

Weird rear lights aside, that's a very nice looking car.

That black bit below the DLO is really naff.... never liked the rear lights... but otherwise... nicely inoffensive...
I think the powertrain gets covered enough in other chats... frown

Although apart from the slightly fussy rear lights I'd like to know what's actually a mess about it? Looks better than any BMW of the last 15 years.

This is what Jaguar should be building (with either ICE or EV power, at a sensible price point)

Looks great, I'm hoping the interior isn't too cheap because I have no other real concerns about it. If there was an alternative in another brand I'd be pleased, I'm not keen on MG, but if nobody else is going to make anything like this then I'm glad they are and I hope it sells loads.

Porsche are likely to sell something very similar and I'm sure the interior will be commensurate with the uplift in price over the MG.
