Talk to me about winter gloves that go under sleeves painlessly (hence, shorter cuff gloves).

I’m considering Rukka ThermoG+ gloves, but Rukka’s glove sizing can be a funny fit, and they lack reinforced pinkie protection. What are the alternatives? I’m interested in warm gloves with laminated waterproofing, a visor wiper and excellent protection.

Would also be interested to hear about some.

I wish manufacturers would get their act together and design more jackets with storm cuffs. fking stupid not being able to tuck in thick winter gloves on a supposed winter jacket.

My Halvarssons Wang Gloves are now 4 years old. Goat Hide palms, Some Scandinavian equivalent to Goretex and I have never been cold or let water in, except when I rode 8 hours in terrible rains with the heated grips on highest setting. Then my left pinky got a bit wet.

Cant say fairer than that for £100.

What I'd really like to see hasn't been made. Rather than being able to tuck gloves in, I'd love them to have zips to connect gloves straight onto the sleeves like your trousers have. OK, it ties your gloves to being the same as your jacket maker, but there's always a gap otherwise. You would lose the wrist protection though which is very important.

OP: are these any use? https://www.alpinestars.com/collections/motorcycle...

You could put some elastic all the way through the arms to each glove. hehe

I had a pair of Rev It Kryptonite 2s delivered from Sportsbike Shop today. In their clearance, and with a 15% discount code they sent over the weekend, £101.

Goretex, fleece lined, visor wipes, short cuff and plenty of armour on the knuckles and finger joints. I haven’t used them on the bike yet, just tried them on with my jacket and so far very pleased. Might be worth a look?

I have some Rukka Argosuarus Gore Tex gloves that I was given as an Xmas prezzie by Mrs 968 at Xmas '21 so they're now just under 3 years old. They cost over £200. I rode to Germany this summer, in July and in Holland encountered the worst rain I've ever ridden in (I commute 60miles daily and have been riding for 40+ years so have encountered some weather!). Absolutely biblical rain for about 2 hours. Wasn't really safe to ride as the rain was bouncing back up off the motorway about a foot in to the air, and the carriageway was flooded. Cars and lorries literally crawling along and so in the end I stopped at a service station.

Anyway, at 2.5 years old my Rukka gloves had totally wetted out. Not just let a bit of water in, I may as well have not been wearing them. May hands looked like I'd been in a bath for an hour. I had my Scott waterproofs pulled down over the cuffs so no way any water got in from the top. Just rubbish. I'd worn them a fair bit in rain before but not for as long and not in rain so heavy and they'd been fine. Purchased from Infinity Motorcycles so I emailed them about Rukka's warranty to be told that it doesn't cover gloves and so there was nothing they could do for me.

Maybe I was unlucky as I know Rukka has a great reputation (which was why I asked for them) but this is really poor. £200, 2 and half years old and useless. My Scott wets were starting to get damp underneath, but not wet and my Daytona boots were 100% cozy dry. I actually really liked the gloves as they are soft leather and really good fit (I had the short fingers in mine as I have wide, stocky hands) were comfy and gave great feel on the bike. But, I'm never buying any more Rukka gloves. I now have Held Score 4 gloves.

2 1/2 years out of a £200 pair of gloves doing 60 mi a day - I think they've done exceptionally well

I wear £40 sealskinz socks in my off-road boots, feet don't move anything like as much as fingers and socks are far easier to make and seal yet my socks probably last less than 50 rides before leaking

I've just tried a £25 competitor they didn't even last one

I don't think that would ever really work. The length of your arm versus the length of the jacket sleeve would be critically important, if the sleeve was even half an inch too short then the gloves would pull against the tips of your fingers all the time, or if the sleeve was slightly too long it would constantly try and push the gloves off your hands. And if you stretch your arms up or out, it would pull against the whole jacket.

TBH, my Oxford jacket has big velcro cuffs which allow it open plenty wide enough to pull on a longer glove underneath and still close tightly enough to stop wind blowing up. I do have handguards on the bike, though, which must make a big difference. I ride in rain regularly and water up the sleeves is quite simply not an issue, ever.

High end Rukka jackets have an inner sleeve that goes into the glove, and an outer sleeve that goes over. It rids the need for the over/under glove debate.

It doesn't have a short cuff (i find it so weird that people like them!), but i have Richa Cold Protect. Waterproof, wiper and warm! Bit bulky, but soon get used to them.

I've also got some winter BKS gloves, but not tried them out yet.

I can see some good options to try, but why are winter gloves with scaphoid sliders few and far between?

Are they BKS in Exeter (i.e., genuine quality BKS, not the J&S crap with the BKS name on it)?

Genuine ones. Work provide them for the bikes smile.

The genuine BKS gloves look highly protective and promising. I’m keen to know what they’re like once you’ve tried them properly.

The summer ones are good. I've done close to 10,000 miles since April with them. I'd prefer a longer cuff with my work kit but other than that all good.

Liked them so much I got some for my own kit as well. Older style in the sale, but done around 3,000 miles in them.

I'll bring my winter ones home this weekend and give them ago next week on my way into work and report back if I remember.

I rode through last winter with those BKS summer gloves and heated grips. To be fair I never got properly soaked, but I never had cold hands.

I'm still using the summer ones. Heated grips are on admittedly. Wednesday was 1 degree when I started work with them. No issues.

Worn them in a downpour for two hours and whilst they weren't waterproof, I wasn't cold or anything.

Annoyingly it seems most of Sportsbikeshop gloves are now order online only - not available for try in store!

Used them on the way home. About 5 degrees today.

They are bulky compared to the summer ones, but going to be as they are fleece lined.

Going to take a bit of getting used to, but first impressions are good!
