Hey all,

So last week I scuffed one of my spider alloys - not terribly, but I wanted to have it repaired so I left it with a local repairer.

I collected it today, and overall it looks like they did a decent job.

The wrinkle is that (and I was half expecting this) the silver colour is slightly lighter than the other wheels. It’s not a disaster, but it is noticeable.

They options I’ve been given are:

1) put some dirt in it, the paint on the other wheels will have discoloured over time; or

2) get the other 3 wheels done the same

I’m not in a huge rush to resolve it, so thought I’d get an opinion on what’s best to do here first.

Take it back, complain, reject the work, ask for a refund or a respray. They have done a poor job. Any decent refurb person will get a perfect match.

You wouldn't accept it if it was a door that didn't match and you wouldn't accept it at home, if your decorator didn't paint the walls in a matching colour, and you wouldn't be wondering how to make wall dirty to match the other walls.

That's a terrible colour match. It's not even close.

I'd be asking them to turn the lights on and try again.

You only need one wheel done - nobody ever sees both sides of a car at the same time. So the answer is to get the same wheel re-done in the right colour.

Ok am inclined to agree the paint match was poor.

On the basis I was told “it might not match” I guess I’ve sold myself short on getting it redone gratis.

Anyone has any experience with anyone that might to a better job? I’m Surrey way.

My wheels wre doneby Lepsons 17 years ago. I've just had them redone because the paint was flaking on one of the spokes, and getting 'thin' on another

Our local Lepsons is now Platinum wheels, but the same people....

I'd swear they were in North London somewhere but it's been a while since I last used them.

What about just having the rear wheel on that side done? They're staggered anyway, and it's unlikely you'd need to swap sides.

I'd be inclined to the same thing, it's not a perfect match but how much did they charge you?

Don't go to lepsoms there rubbish to how they were 15 years ago. Had my griff wheels refurbished 18 months ago and already there back to pre refurbished. I've done around 1500 miles and all in the dry .275 quid wasted

If you had a front wing resprayed they don't say that the colour might not match, and if it didn't you would be right back complaining I expect, so I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to match the colour of a wheel!!!

If it was powder coated rather than painted, then they probably only have a coupe of shades of silver.

Also, the OP may have just supplied the one wheel, not the whole car. I admit, I though that there was only usually one shade of silver for wheels if it's just paint. scratchchin

I did indeed leave just one wheel, that was the only option available.

Anyways, lessons learnt. I’ll be more picky next time.

I will hunt about the suggestions above and see if I can’t find one that will agree to try to get the colour right rather than just paint it “silver”
