Can't comment on the 40mm but I tried this 36mm on recently, perfect for me...

I have decided this will be my next purchase though...

I'd wanted a Day-date for a long time, tried both the 40mm and 36mm and went for the 36mm in RG with chocolate dial, I think sports watches are fine in 40mm but 'smarter' watches should be smaller.

I wanted to wear it mainly as a dress watch so it had to sit under a shirt cuff which the 40mm didn't comfortably plus on my slim wrists it wears too big, I didn't see any of the bracelet just the face and lugs.

I suppose if you want to make a statement or have big wrists then 40mm is the way to go, I just found it too big on me.

Nice decision to have to make.

I've got a 36mm datejust (well it's really my wives) with a balck face and WG fluted bezel and it wears a touch small on me. I did try on a 36 YG day-date recenlty and it did feel a better size even though technically the bezels are the same diameter. I do quote like the 40mm also but it's defo a more flashy watch.

A lovely watch.
Whilst I like the idea of a classic 36mm version, the reality in my opinion is that the dial is too small to carry off what is quite a busy space - batons/numerals, hands, date, cyclops and of course the day window. The 40mm is much better proportioned for this.
My preference is to go white gold over yellow or rose, due mainly to the added wearability of a less extrovert colour.
I have my eye on this one.

Having said that, the rose gold over brown is lovely too.

Most of my watches are 40mm or larger but I do love my 36mm DD as I think it is the classic size and it just works.

I had a 36 gold dial for years. Loved it. If I was in the market I’d probably still get another 36. It’s just a classic watch.
