I have a 2017 Macan GTS.

Are the buttons in these things made of cheese?

I've had three of the little silver "end trims" on the window controls break off within about 2-3 months.
My PASM button has cracked in two, but remained in place. One of the passenger heater direction control buttons has also split in two, this time with half the button coming off.

I've been driving for 39 years and had a couple of dozen private cars and many other work and hire cars. I've never broken a button or any other piece of trim, so I'm hardly ham-fisted.

Have I just been unlucky or is this a common quality issue?

Quality have definitely gone down in recent years. Couldn’t believe how much cheaper the 992 bs 991 interior feels at least.

You do sound unlucky though

I had the silver trim on the window switches break off too on a 2019 Macan. It was rectified under warranty. I also have a crack in the parking brake switch which I have no idea how it happened… everything else appears well made and no problems so far in four years of ownership…

Silver trim broke off the engine cover release button the first time I used it in my 911.

I got the window control unit replaced at my cost after I was told it wasn't covered under warranty.

I'm asking these questions now because I've just had the warranty claim refused, and the two buttons being in different clusters will mean I will need to replace both. I'm looking for some evidence of general fragility to argue a case.

Interesting that your window control unit was replaced under warranty. I will definitely mention that.

I would agree that the rest of the car is very solid, but someone had an off day with the switchgear

Drivers window switch on our 991 pinged off, apparently a common issue with Porsche switches

Could you add a bit of deatil to that? I keep wondering if I need a 992, though I'm very happy with my 991.2 T. I'm thinking that maybe I should be even happier with it...!

I went for a 991.1 Turbo S in the end
