Hi Chaps,

I have a mongoose cable and SDD and trying to somehow get an earlier windows release installed on my Panasonic toughbook which is touch screen - the fact its touchscreen surely rules out the use of an actual touch screen itself? I am trying to get windows 7 or something installed.

Has anyone this SDD up and running successfully? I did have it working on the Toughbook when it was running Windows 10 but it was a nightmare getting it to work and I was getting all sorts of errors and stuff, I did manage to pull off a log file from the car itself which was a bit interesting (2009 XKRS, one of the 200 limited models)

Car is going great, just want this for my own benefit since I wont be taking this to Jag, most of the maintenance I have done myself including a full underbody treatment - dealing with all the undertrays and wheel arch liners PITA. Oil change done a week ago

Cheers

I've run the install successfully (works fine on Windows 10 btw), SDD v160 and v131, not especially difficult, but takes ages.

Some of the sellers provide something a bit easier to work with - use Oracle Virtualbox to host a Windows XP VM which you can discard changes etc and preserve in a good state.

Try this link and see if it works: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a-h9reGoUA...

Hi there, appreciate the links.!

I do have an update on this

I spend about 2 days putting Windows 7 on my Panasonic toughbook, its done - I have all the updates and Adobe installed. I will try connect over the weekend - I have V138

I did not really want a virtual machine, the Toughbook was purchased for the Jag only, I dont need it for anything else. I did have a newer version of the SDD but it would not install (on Win 7) and I gave up on that.

Cheers

I've got the latest version working natively on Windows 11, it's far more responsive and reliable than running it in a VM ever was.

The only reason to run an older version is to use SDD130 to program keys, the later versions won't program 2nd hand keyless keys to old models.

I am still a newbie to this but let me see how I get along with my install, I only want to scan all the modules and various bs systems

It's a miserable piece of software to use. Unless I need to actually do something very specific or code a module I just use my Autel scanner that can talk to all the modules, it takes a couple of minutes to get the job done not the 15+ that doing anything with SSD seems to take.

The newest version is less crap and makes it easier to just get to what you want though.

The advantage of a VM is that once you get a config that's working you can vacuum a copy of that, then revert to it if you have an issue.

Would it be ok for me to PM you GoL?

I've got the latest SDD installed on an Acer Laptop (v165 I think) and it works (connects fine to my 2010 XF using a mongoose cable). I've got a battery support PSU.

I've used it fine for reading codes etc. but I want to add a heated steering wheel to the car and I've never ventured into the BCM recoding because of the very high risk of bricking the car if I take one wrong turn.

Would you be able to talk me through what's involved in activating the wheel?

Sure send me a PM. There is a key generator for unlocking CDF editing mode but after that it's really easy, particularly if you have a decent battery tender so you can take your time.

Hi lads,

Ok, today I hooked up the toughbook to my XKRS and ran this thing - on windows 7...

Worked pretty good, I got to that screen when they scan all the BUS modules etc with green ticks and selected some random things to interrogate and just used that to get a DTC scan and pulled stuff going back to 2009 - and wiped everything and re scanned and have 4 codes now 2 of which are gibberish - per the TSB bulletin... Do Jag delaers even know this...or garages.

The permanent codes are the battery sounder which was on my to do list, I need to pull that thing out and replace the battery

The other code is the windscreen heater. it says short to ground or open circuit. Code B1097-14 - Heated Windscreen Relay

Has anyone any idea on this? The 2 40A fuses in the engine bay are good and the relays were all pullled and I lubed up all the contacts with contact cleaner

I need to check the connectors for the heating element - behind the A pillar I think..

I have drawn a line when it comes to programming modules - reading DTCs is fine but when it comes to programming stuff there is a 'slight' chance of borking up stuff due to how **** the SDD software is and then the buck falls on you to fix it - if you have a genuine mongoose OBD you might have better luck
