I bought an approved used RRS this time last year. I had a test drive 24th Nov 2023 and agreed that I would buy it. I paid for it on the 30th November and they said they would prepare the car for me and I collected it on the 9th December 2023, so I thought thats when the warranty would start. We wanted the car earlier as we had sold the outgoing car privately, but they couldn't give it to us any earlier than that, so 9th December was the earliest it was ready.

A fault came up on the dash and I emailed servicing about it on 29th Nov and I've just dropped it off this morning. They told me my approved used warranty ended on 26th November and I've now moved to RAC warranty (that I added onto the purchase at time of sale, so we agreed 12months LR warranty and a further 12 months RAC) so that doesn't feel right to me. How can the 12 months approved used warranty end less that 12 months before I got the car?

Should I dig my heels in here and argue the point? I guess where it might get messy is where the fault is covered under the 12 months approved used warranty, but not the RAC warranty.

I would dig heels in personally.

I would argue that the warranty shouldn’t start till the keys are in your hands as it’s still the dealers until then.

Why would a warranty start when it’s still at the dealers getting prepped for sale?

When did you transfer the funds to buy the car?

What date was it registered to you on the V5?

Good point around getting registered on the V5, I will need to check

So I went back to collect it yesterday afternoon, they did the diagnostics etc and found the 02 sensor needed replaced and they have ordered it and booked me in for a January appointment. No payment was asked for so all good in that respect.

Hate to tell you this, but unless it has changed the LR approved used warranty is also a third party one. And the provider will wriggle as much as they can… especially if the full fault wasn’t identified or reported before the 12 month point.
