Council Tax increase 2025

Mine is increasing by 5.5%.

Largest element is the Parish Council which is increasing by 22.5%.

The Parish Council precept is usually a tiny fraction of the overall council tax bill.

Last year my PC precept was 0.7% of the total bill.

So 22% of nearly nothing has little to do with the overall 5.5% increase.

9% here in NE Wales for me I believe, not insignificant! And they're reducing general waste bin collections to once every three weeks at the same time for good measure. (I know that's a small part of where my money goes, but still!)

Mine came through yesterday, similar increase to you overall. £2889.68 band E. An absolute bargain.

5.6% here for the Parish Council.

Police 13%
District 7%
Parish 5.6%
Fire 3.6%

Biggest % increase was 6.1% for Fire, smallest was 1.4% for Parish, overall 4.6%.

County council have a 5% increase cap imposed by government (although some have got agreement to go above this).

There is no limit on the percentage increase that can be implemented by Parish Councils.

So the country councils have been devolving their powers and services to parish councils.

My council tax is now double the energy bill. Pretty sure they were equal a decade ago, albeit in a smaller house.

11% increase in angus. And we'll get less for the increase as this increase is only to cover the deficit.

The same council has just "invested" 4m in a local town to put in a new cycle path removing an urban dual carriageway in the process. What a waste of money when shorelines are crumbling, the elderly are being neglected and our towns are falling apart.

My Parish Council now owns the village grass verges which needs cutting once a fortnight in the warmer months.

It could be a slippery slope. Or it could be common sense.

I guess subsequent years (and increases) will tell us.

Well over half of Oxfordshire's 4.99% increase is going to 'adult social care'. That should come from central govt.

Some of the increases here in Scotland are significant. They range from 6% to 15.6%. Where I live it is 8.2% and the average is probably 9 - 9.5%

Water bills are separate in Scotland - they are increasing by 9.9%

Isn't that where much of all Council tax is going nowadays?. I tend tp agree that it should be a national issue re health.

I was half watching something about care homes on TV. I think it was a local news item where a family had installed secret cameras in the care home where their adult child was being looked after. He had one to one care 24 hours a day.

My ears pricked up when it was mentioned the private care home were charging the local authority in excess of £4,000 a week for looking after this one lad.

No idea what the % increase was, my wife just told me it started with a 4 now and not 3 figures.
Think it’s gone up by about £400 or so.

Someone's got to pay for all the SEND kids to get their own taxis to school everyday.

Sheffield council said they spend £8m a year on that alone.

All I see are the bins being taken every two weeks & that’s it.

Yet it goes up 5’ish % every year.
