Hi all, just need a couple of questions answering about scrap metal.smile

I have been saving it up for a while now, and hoping to put the cash towards hiring a supercar for my wedding in Septdriving

I have got copper, brass & braziery.

Question 1- Can I have brass fittings in with the braziery? I have put all my braziery bits into the top of a hot water cylinder, but a few off the cut off bits have had brass nuts on, will this be ok??

Question 2- I'm trying to make sure the copper is 'clean' but I have been told different things concerning paint. Can the copper pipe have paint on it or not? If no, does it effect the price by a big amount? Or should I just stick all the copper with paint on it in the same bags?

I hope someone can answer these for me..frown

Cheers.

IIRC the copper is still valuable in whatever guise, with or without paint (the paint burns off in the smelting process)so most scrap merchants will take it and give a good price. I worked on a waste transfer site where all metals were separated, we sold the copper on and received good payment for all types.

Yes you can weigh brass fittings in with braziery, however you will receive a price that will reflect the work the merchant needs to do to crop the brass bits off.
Sounds silly but you do get a little more for clean copper than painted.Painted copper has to go through a slightly different process to be refined due to the paint fumes burning off and causing a hazard. When I was in the scrap metal business the price difference was around £50 per tonne difference
