Hire car insurance

I need some advice.
I moved to Hong Kong nearly 2 years ago and want to head back to the UK in June to combine it with a trip to Le Mans. I have inquired about hiring a TVR Sagris (an old flame) for 10 days which is very reasonable, the catch however is the £10k excess when I hit France. No way I want to go down this route, just seems a lot of wonger for a trolley ding in the supermarket. They have suggested I cover the car under my current insurance. So here's the problem, I have my no claims held in the UK for a few more months but with no current policy. Is it possible to take out my own insurance on a hire car for a week or so?
