This 'pass the parcel' and retailer' company policy' b/s is precisely why governments have felt the need to enact a series of consumer rights laws (currently the CRA 2015). This has already been pointed out to you previously by another poster so there is no need for me to repeat it. The key point is that the consumer has no contract with the manufacturer. Anything that the latter may choose to perform directly with the consumer is pure goodwill on its part.

In a previous life I worked for 12 years in the rag trade. The company supplied all the major retail fashion chains. The latter never inconvenienced their customers in this way over faulty goods. They just physically bounced the items back to us and issued debit notes on our account. No ifs, no buts: we had to suck it up.

It shouldn't have been necessary for the OP to do this.
