I live in Guernsey & due to limited local choice, I've bought most of my cars from the mainland, as have a lot of friends.

I usually agree a deal over the phone, subject to any pre purchase inspection, they fly over & collect.
What would you do if you didn’t have a lot of friends?

Fair enough. I’m sure this guy is genuine, i just didn’t want to be caught out by a scam that everyone knew about but me!

I’d never heard of a log book loan before i bought a car without the V5 (it was only a coulpe of hundred quid for a kit car donor, and they had a receipt from when they bought it, and i did a hpi check on it). Then someone told me that it was ‘common practice’ for scumbags to take a loan out on the car (which don’t show up on hpi checks), and then flog it quick. As it turns out, its fine, but you don’t know what you don’t know!

Sorry, it's been a long day and I lack the capacity to understand your comment, could you explain it for me?

Treat as you would any other buyer, with caution. A chat over the phone will usually give you a good feel for any prospective buyer.

I’m guessing that if you didn’t have lots of friends, then they wouldn’t be able to buy lots of cars from the mainland? Car to friend ratio would be too high!

Either that or an “I” has been read where no “I” was written...

You said that you buy a lot of cars form the mainland, as you have a lot of friends. I’m struggling to understand why having a lot of friends is relevant to buying cars from the mainland.

I was being flippant obviously, as I presume you meant, a lot of your friends have bought a lot of cars from the mainland too.

I didn't use "faster payments" when I bought SWMBO's FFRR. Just a plain old transfer on my tablet. The money was in the sellers account, instantly.

That's pretty fast.
That is "faster payments", banks just don't label/brand it as such. The only other system is BACS which clears over a couple of days.

The selection of which system they use when you do a transfer is based on the value of the transfer. Below a certain limit = faster payments, above = BACS.

Faster payments is the answer. But do it in a series of payments under 10k and it seems to get through ok.

Go over that and all hell breaks loose with the fraud check. Sold my car and the payment (30k) kept getting blocked.

After an hour on the phone to the bank I suggested to the buyer to try 3 lots of 10k and they all went through immediately.
Different banks have different limits, some limit the total per day, some limit the total amount per transaction.

You'd do well to check what the limits are before deciding that that's the way payment is going to work!

Llyods bank are a nightmare bought a car with instant payment on a Friday evening after viewing it, I completed the transaction but it did not show up in the sellers account ( I am with first direct they were Lloyd’s ), rang my bank they said yes money has left but Lloyd’s wouldn’t accept it, had to do an 80 mile round trip to pick up next day when Llyods finally accepted it and that was only £1700, happened with another car same two banks luckily my mate was with me who also banked with Llyods but it would not have gone through if he had done it through internet banking he had to ring them to make sure it went straight through, sum this time £2200.

I did and both interpretations are valid. You’re using “as” to mean also, whereas, I read “as” in the sense of it was a reason for you doing what preceded it. It just shows how complex the English language is.
