Got ticket for 75 - 80 on M25
Discussion
Hi chaps,
My freind at work has got a ticket after being stopped on the M25, whilst driving at approx 75-80mph. It was an un-marked car. He was also not the fastest person on the road at the time, as numerous cars were over-taking him.
On the ticket, it says "excess speed -70mph". There is no speed recorded on the ticket to indicate what he is being prosecuted at, or caught driving at.
Does anybody know if this is right, or if this is an oversight that would render the ticket void?
(seems a bit harsh at the speed he was going, any how)
cheers,
Gallen.

As much as anyone would want to say "what a disgrace" etc, was he doing other things other than exceeding the limit? Tailgating? Rapidly changing lanes? etc. etc.
If he was driving like a plank (this is not an accusation, I stress) then it's understandable. If he wasn't, then while I am surprised - he was still exceeding the limit (though something is a bit fishy as to why him!?).
You say "exceeding 70"...which makes me assume, of course, it was not on the variable limit bit of the M25 (which would explain why 75-80 was pulled!)

There is no requirement to put a speed on the ticket as the offence is exceeding the 70mph - there is no specific offence for driving at 75-80mph in a 70mph limit.
I would be very surprised if your friend got a ticket for doing 75mph (is this his estimate?), but rather he was seen going faster elsewhere, but the BIB didn't get a recording of him until he had slowed down and thus the evidence could only be used to prosecute as a fixed penalty.

I doubt a BiB would bother to stop anyone for 75-80 kleptons. It wouldn't be worth the hassle.
As above, I would guess he was either driving faster before the blue lights were illuminated, or as per TonyH said above, "driving like a plank"
I got stopped on the M25 at and got a talking to and a producer... www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=10&h=&t=139779

FastShow, surely if plod is on his own operating the Vascar, isnt he committing an offence similar to using a mobile phone, ie driving with out due care and attention...................
Whoopps silly me, the law doesnt apply to plods, go out road test your new super unmarked blazing cop car, park on pavements, zap speeding motorists.......

Thats right, if plod sees a car being driven dangerously with 4 men hanging out the windows firing shotguns at oncoming traffic, he must pull over to the side of the road, turn his engine off, apply his handbrake, and only then use his radio.
