I'm curious, if my 156 decides to disintegrate due to tin worm, are there options to implant the rather special Arese V6 into something a little more sporting?

Just a thought...

If not a Caterfield, then what else?

I'm sure it'd be possible with enough bodging modification, but it depends how experimental you want to be. The engine bay in a Caterham is quite tight so it depends on the physical size of the engine (and ancilliaries) you're trying to fit. Then there's the challenge of connecting it to a gearbox etc.

Possibly dropping it into a classic Alfa spider/coupe of some sort might be easier.

Has anyone else thought about a rx8 engined caterham?

Apart from the fuel bills I imagine it would be a perfect match.

Is it any food do you know?

I had a 04 plate 231ps rx8 from new and it was mince but I imagine the engine would compliment the 7 quite well.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that it's too big for the Caterham's engine bay, but it's been done a few times with the Dax Rush. Inline gearbox required, of course.

Engine far too heavy - would wreck the handling of a caterham.

The rotary Se7en lives near Hartley Whitney and a very nice bloke named Bill owns it. It took him a while but I'm informed it works a treat!

The Buick V-6 is certainly a viable power plant and will easily fit into an SV, and I suspect most any Caterham. Cheap as chips to buy from
the US and ship here. Were you to get one, I'd straight away hand it to Rob @ RatRace to turn into a monster performance platform as he's a genius with US lumps!

You could pop that big old engine in an S4 then the handling would match the looksvomit.......Joking aside

Its not the best engine for what you want to do, its weight rules it out of any type of lightweight sports car tomfoolery. Shame though as they do sound nice on full chat, maybe use it in a TVR....Clutching at straws there though..

A Stratos replica would be the obvious, tried-and-tested option?

Someone was building a carbon bodied bike based V6 Caterham. Can only find one picture of it at the moment:

Mike

That is/was the car being built for Richard/Carbon Bits, using a RST V6 using 2 yamaha 3 cylinder snow mobile engines on a comman crankcase, with a sadev 6speed box.

It was being completed by Carbon bits, but as they have now stopped trading, i think one of the guys was trying to finish it off for Richards widow.

The V6 was circa 380bhp n/a or 500+ supercharged

Yeah...I tried to find the website again, but it seems to have disappeared now. I remember seeing the chassis and engine at Autosport a few years ago and thinking it looked like a fantastic project. Remember reading about Richards death in the Lotus 7 Club magazine......hopefully someone takes on the project and finishes it off.

I have this car now.

I bought this car in January of this year. I was in the middle of building an SV version of the 620 R when I saw An advert for the RiF project car, I dismissed the idea, but after reading about it and realising that I never do things by halves, I made up my mind to acquire it and abandon my original project.

I'd originally planned for it to have been finished already. It's debut was meant to be the Silvertone GP trackday on bank holiday May 26th, but annoying an unexpected 2.5 month delay at Pro Alloy has somewhat ruined all my plans. I took the car straight to Russell Savory for him to complete, it made sense to me as he supplied the car in the first place and has all the drawings and knowledge to finish it to the standard it deserves.

It'll be registered soon as a Caterham Levante Superlight. Hopefully it'll be appearing in Low Flying in a few months time as a sort of closure to the long running project along with everyone who's been involved with it, including Henrietta Lee.

Anyway, it's just about to leave Pro Alloy and they've kindly supplied some pictures of the build which I thought I'd share with anyone that's interested. There's also pics I took when I saw t for the first time.

There has been progress. The car starts and runs now, though I haven't driven it anywhere as I'm still waiting for the air box/filter/duct arrangement to be finished next week. Once this is done I hope to get on a track day somewhere to start bedding it in and dialling in the suspension a bit, plus scaring myself silly, hopefully.

The replacement carbon fibre bits have been matt satin wrapped in an attempt to leave as much of the CF showing as possible. The bonnet has been sun damaged whilst stored so we're going to try re-lacquering it, and if this doesn't work I may paint the whole car in such a way to leave some of it showing.

As for the OP, a Stratos replica would be my choice wink The ListerBell would be my kit of choice. This should wet your appetite http://www.listerbell.com/
