Morning all,

Just wondering what tyre sizes owners use on 13” rims (6j front and 8j rear) as an exact replacement for my current tyres only leave the option of Avon ZZS which doesn’t give much choice. Car is an R400D.

Any help and where you purchase the tyres from would be appreciated.

Generally people use 185 front 205 rears on those size rims.

Toyo R888s are popular. A few people use Nankang NS2Rs but not sure them make a 205R13

Thanks. I was wondering if the 205 are quite narrow for an 8” rim as when I had the wheels refurbed the fitter really struggled putting the current 215s back on. But if that’s what other people use then it can’t be too bad.

I’ve got the 6” fronts and 8” rears on 13s and the 185 and 215 size ZZS tyres fit a treat. I buy them from BMTR or Caterham depending on stock (prices are virtually identical) and get my local tyre place to fit them, never had any issues.

ZZS is a great tyre, loads of dry grip, very progressive break away and last a good few miles. For info, I used to deal with Avon tyres in a previous role at work and the rep told me the ZZS will give around 80% the grip of ZZR in the dry, but with much better wet weather capability.

Is that on an 8 inch rear rim with no issues fitting them?

Me ? Then yes, straight fit.The do run close the DD ears and Ive heard of folk having to dress the corner of the ear a tad for a little peace of mind.

DD Ears is a wheel thing I think, not a tyre thing...

Think the OP is concerned about the 205 being a bit narrow for an 8" rim. NFI on that myself..

according to Toyo, 205s don't fit on 8" rims

ETA: I ran 205x60s on 6" rims all round on my Caterham. Albeit Yokos from memory

Awesome thanks for the help. The Toyos seem a lot cheaper by about £200 than the ZZS when swapping all 4 so will give them a go I think as I haven’t heard any bad things about them.

I'd be interested in how you get on with them, and how the fitter finds them! Also have 420r on a 13inch staggered 6/8 inch setup and looking at potential tyres.

I personally prefer the balance of 6 inches all round.
8 inches rear with 205 048s or 215 ZZS give a wierd balance which i am not a fun of.

Did you fit them, and any feedback?
