Caterham Down Under

Sales start again next month in Australia

Caterham’s will be selling the Seven in Australia again from next month for the first time in six years.

The Surrey based firm has received the green light to begin exports of the two-seater after meeting the latest Australian Design Regulations.

Two versions of the Roadsport model, a 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre VVC, will be launched via Caterham’s distributor in Sydney. The K Series engines develop 115bhp and 160bhp respectively.

The launch coincides witht the news of a new Caterham Blackbird endurance series being launched in Oz.

Managing Director Simon Nearn said, "We’ve always had a popular following from sportscar lovers Down Under and to be able to supply to Australia once again is fantastic news for us and them. Once again, the unique combination of the Seven’s road car dynamics and cost effective motorsport programmes have helped develop new and important overseas markets ".

Caterham expects to sell upwards of 30 cars in the first year.

I wouldnt have thought they would do all that well down under. A lot of the driving seems to be like it is in the States hence the big engined saloon cars.
Also lack of aircon is a big no no for anywhere from Sydney up.

I guess it will be the track day drivers and serious enthusiasts that will be buying though.

Best of luck to Caterham and good to see another fantastic British sports car being sold abroad.

(Incidentally I saw only 1 TVR in one year in Australia. It was a silver Chimaera at Bondi beach (the expensive residentual area))

and there's a few old JPE's and other cars. Miraz took his there, so there's a growing community there.

They were sold in Brisbane for a number of years as a second "toy" car and were/are quite popular.
