Assembling the S4 project. Questions. Wiring Loom "harness". Do the loom the wires route through the transmission tunnel or through the cabin going to back of car? How are the wires routed? Tied to chassis rails? Grommet through luggage compartment from transmission tunnel? What about the battery in the luggage compartment? Does the postive wire route through the transmissin tunnel? Attach to chassis member with. "Zip ties" ? Seat construction (before upholstry), some time ago, pictures of seats where posted. Pictures no longer open on site. Are there pictures of seats before upholstry is installed, that can be posted, so I can replicate/figure out? This is just the start of the assembly process. As I recall, seat sides were aluminum, riveted to some type of wood product on bottom and seat back. Vinyl upholstry is glued to aluminum seat sides? Stapled to wood product center bottom and center seat back? Thank you for the time and assistance. mrman in USA

Loom goes through engine bay into car for the dash, on my car I've fed the loom underneath the car in the transmission tunnel, then back into the boot for rear lights, battery cable is alongside the loom and feeds in adjjacernt to battery, but of course you could feed both inside the cockpit it's your choice.battery earth on my car is attached to rear suspension mount [needs a real good contact]
I've never stripped my seats but your description sounds about right, on mine the rear is 1/4" ply, on my orignial car [which I built from a kit] the rear of the seat was hardboard which dissolved quickly after it got wet, so use a quality plywood [Marine grade] and you ought to be OK.
Hope this Helps

Thank you for the reply on electrical loom/wiring harness. Question on windscreen aluminum surround/frame. What is used for the glass to frame gasket? A generic gasket or, from another car? The lower rubber lip that fits between the body and lower windscreen surround Scuttle/cowl to lower windscreen surround) . Has what appears to be a, "T" track. Where to find that piece? Another car? MG Midget? Thank you for the time and information
I'm not familiar with the actual profile, but my 'go-to' for all rubber sections would start with Woolies.

Hey Everyone,
Couple questions for Lotus Seven S4 owners.
My reverse indent is no longer in my shifter. I used to force it into reverse without it going in second, now it is gone. How can I fix this?
Also, what are the rear lights supposed to do? In other words which light does what? Which is the indicator lights and which are the brake lights? We need to rewire the rear lights of the car.
Thanks,

Hi everyone, pleased to meet you guys, what a great thread this is. Have read all 41 pages and learnt a fair bit!
Based in Singapore and recently exported #2804 from the UK. Car has proven to be a superbly restored S4 in every respect and I’m immensely pleased.
I do have a question on tyres. Current 175/60R13 are Yokohama Advan A032R age unknown as not printed in tyre.
Need to increase sump clearance so planning 185/70R13 and have read good things about the Pirelli Cinturato CN36. Haven’t seen them on any of the cars here though - any feedback on this tyre and size for our cars?

Great looking Seven S4. Where did you get the Sterring wheel and boss and what are the part numbers on them? I am 6'5" and I am in need of a smaller steering wheel for my S4. Welcome - Good to see you on this thread
If you can get them in singapore then yokohama AO21r in 185/70x13 are the tyres to get, I've tried most other's from different manufactureres in this size the yoko's are the best bar none - of course it depend how you drive the car, but for grip get the yoko's whic are much taller than the 175/60's which you have fitted.
Hope this helps

Thank you for the info and welcome, I appreciate it!
I asked Longstone tyres about the Pirelli Cinturato CN36 but they're out of stock till year end so I may look at your suggestion

zetec is a tall engine and will require some height adjustment of the engine mounts, and a special sump [I got mine from retro ford] to fit in an S4. I also used a remote oil filter to clear the steering column, I also swopped the hydraulic clutch for a simpler cable clutch - if youre good with the spanners fitting a zetec is a doddle, good luck post some photo's of your progress

Dont know is the answer - I guess you be better off with Sierrra 2000cc dohc plate & cover, and adapt the existing hydraulics to suit, ask Burtons they will know. I used a tranX 5 speed sccr type 9 box and mag rs2000 bellhousing with the actuating arm unique for the bellhousing, using a cable clutch actuation takes care of the bearing adjustment via the screw thread on the clutch cable itself - cable was a Mk2 cortina though any of the fords from 1970's have similar system for adjustment just using different cable lengths - hope this helps thumbup:
