They all have mechanical advance as revs is the key factor in ignition timing.

Then some have vacuum advance to give some more advance at low throttle openings.

I have an xflow and a BDR both without vacuum advance which seems fine.

There's lots of systems out there such as the Pertronix or Aldon setups. 123ignition seems well regarded. The more expensive ones give user control over the advance curve if you have special requirements there!

Just curious, there was a yellow S4 in bits, on ebay a month or so back. Was tempted. Did anyone here buy it?

For; S4 7. For my, S4 Seven project. Need the cabin heater assembly. Maybe an S3, S2 Seven cabin heater will work? What is the source of the S4 cabin heater? I have read Rover, the Rovers I look at have a round heater. Have; Elan heater and Europa heater assemblies are they similiar? The Europa heater assembly is smaller than the Elan with no fan. What about Triumph Spitfire cabin heater, too large? Perhaps a picture could be posted, No idea of what I am looking for. Thanks for the help in advance. Located in Arizona mrvman

Thank you for the response. Is the S4 Caterham heater same as the Lotus Elan unit? What vehicle did the Lotus S4 heater derive from? Wouldt like to install a heater assembly in my S4 Project. Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. In Arizona USA

No idea, sorry. The S4 is quite a different car from my S3, but Chris at Redline is knowledgeable about all forms of Caterhams and can source most parts / sundries for most models, including the S4. He has, I believe, the original S4 body moulds too, so can arrange for new parts to be made… send him your query and he'll get back to you. It is a small business, so a little patience goes along way.

Did anyone on here buy this S4 at Spicers Auction?

https://www.spicersauctioneers.com/catalogue/lot/e...

I know 2 of the previous owners and enjoyed driving it back in the late 70s

Attempting to, "preassemble" my S4 before paint. Question, There is a stamped sheet metal bracket that holds the upper steering column (bracket 19 in parts list). Where and how does the bracket mount? Under the lip of fiberglass under the tachometer and speedometer? Trying to upload pictures with no success. If the bracket fits under the instrument panel, does a hole need to be cut in the fiberglass under the tackometer and speedometer? I am dealing with a new body. Thank you in advance. More questions as this continues. Steve V. In Arizona USA

Does anyone know what car the fuel level sender is off? Mine is rusted up and ruined. It has the part number TBS 1114/011 on it but I cant find any that match online. It is held in place by the locking ring rather than the 6 bolts/nuts

Checking in from Texas and hoping this thread is still active. I have s43123gts and now gathering parts and info to have it back on the road again after a long hiatus. Anyone know if Hajo is still active? I could use a set of those door bottoms to replace my cracked pair.

Note on; Hajo Stephan. Often Hajo would post on this forum on about S4s and parts he was making. Several years ago I paid, Hajo for a windscreen surround, seats and more. Never recieved any of the parts, or any contact from him at all, after he confirmed payment. I did notice some time ago, he posted on this site, I contacted him again, he then stopped posting. I have sent him mail to Germany (letters), found multiple e mail addresses for him, still nothing. I posted on his, Face book site, no reply. I have proof of funds transfer from the bank, and worse, he acknowledged the funds transfer was a success, then nothing. Curious if anyone else has any information on Hajo? Noticed the post about how he is old and moving slow, after all these years, even moving slow, he could refund my money or send the parts. By the way, recently I did e mail again, about, if he would just send the seats and a top (hood), I would call it even. Sad to have to write this. Steve V. Arizona USA

I'm shocked you wrote what you did about Hajo - for sure he's not the easiest guy to get hold of, never has been, I've net him several times - I would not have thought he would do something like that to anyone. I have a pair of his side screens on my car - Guess I was wrong in my appraisal of him. thanks for posting that - best chance of contacting him is looking for his posts on FB and track him down from them, you could try John Watson at L7 club [also on FB] he's the Lotus 7 historian - hope this helps
