Don't quite know why but it has me laughing out loud. It's little things like this that happen every so often that make this game extra special.
Brilliant but I was waiting for him to toss a grenade in! Don't quite know why but it has me laughing out loud. It's little things like this that happen every so often that make this game extra special.
I finally finished HM King's Fall today. Yes, yes, I know I'm nine months behind the curve, but I remember it feeling fiendishly hard during those early attempts and the realityis that - no revives aside - it doesn't really feel any different to NM once you're at 330+ light. Warpriest was down in two phases, Golgoroth took three, and Oryx was a very tense but rewarding affair, especially as it was challenge mode this week, which lead to plenty of loot from Oryx himself as well; 334 Handcannon, 320 Pulse Rifle, 334 Hard Light, 335 Mida, 2 x 335 Artefacts, a Ship, Shader plus two emblems.
Whilst it was a lot of fun, there were a couple of frustrations that did hammer home one of the issues with King's Fall that Vault of Glass and Crota's End didn't suffer so much from; mechanics glitching. Yes, yes, I know, VoG and Crota had their fair share of those too - heck, I've got a few of them immortalised on my Youtube channel - but they didn't feel quite as ball breaking as they do in King's Fall. Why? King's Fall is very clearly geared towards a full six-man fireteam, with everyone having a designated job to do. You can seldom afford to carry a weak link. Crota's End now feel's like an extended cut of a strike rather than a Raid, especially as many of us have actually managed to beat it solo, something that seems all but impossible without breaking the game on VoG or KF.
Anyway, during the run we had numerous issues; Orbs not dropping no matter how much they were shot in Golgoroth fight, inability to collect relic in Daughter's fight, dying despite being in invincibility aura during Oryx encounter (twice!)... I'm sure I could find more were I of a mind to trawl the internet, but you get the idea. Basically, King's Fall is a very technical Raid that demands near perfection in execution to complete. Thing is, it leaves a very sour taste in the mouth when you and your team are able to nail the mechanics but are denied by one of said mechanics suddenly going a bit wonky. Bungie seem to demand perfection from us, but are unable to give the same back.
And that just seems unfair.

Visually and conceptually Kings Fall is amazing, but I agree that making the Oryx encounter an exercise in getting 6 people to co-ordinate perfectly for 15-30 minutes is adding difficulty from the wrong aspect. And that just seems unfair.
It makes it very difficult to play in a public group with randoms and causes a lot of frustration. Even at level 335 with the perfect gear and the perfect group class make up, one small mistake from any one of the 6 of you means a wipe and start again. It's for this reason that I didn't even bother attempting it the first time around at levels below 315.
VoG had it right in my opinion - painfully difficult (after they fixed pushing Atheon off the platform glitch) in the early days, but as you get more experienced in the mechanics and got better gear you could carry the odd mistake.
Very eloquently put, Youngsy, and I agree entirely.
VoG HM was tough-as-nails early doors, because we were pretty much universally under levelled. I was one of the forever-twenty-nine crew that simply couldn't get the relevant drop to hit 30, but even so if you had a good group, you could cope with one, two or sometimes even three deaths and still get by. King's Fall - the Oryx encounter especially - doesn't have that safety cushion, and even with a full fireteam of 335 Guardians that out-level even Oryx himself, you're still going to be right up against it if even a single team member goes down just because the mechanics are so unforgiving of a single mistake.
As I said, I've got no problem with demanding teamwork from a Raid: they're supposed to be the ultimate PvE challenge, after all, and whilst King's Fall is a fantastic Raid regardless, it does make it much less appealing to attempt a run when you don't have a regular group to do it with. Randoms can be so... well, random.
Hopefully the new Raid in Rise of Iron can strike a slightly more happy medium between demanding teamwork / co-ordination and letting us have fun.

Raid - would like to have a crack as far as Warpriest, want that machine gun!
And Destiny reminded my today that you can't just breeze through everything. Daily heroic, Entropy's Pinnacle. I HATE jumping sections and died a few times doing that bit, bd phalanxs half way didn't help either
Endless bloody Taken captains and more and more mobs = quit after half a dozen attempts. I'll wait for an easier daily ta
Git gud scrub, etc

Still not sure, I even went back and checked the time, it said 1430 BST which I assumed was British SummerTime. That's why I hopped in and said I'd be up for it, then when I had no response to messages and party invites, I looked again and twigged they were all in the US.
Golgoroth challenge should come with reset tomorrow, and with it the only Calcified Fragment I need to complete my Y2 Moments of Triumph. We'll get you a Raid HMG at some point Moog, don't worry!

DestinyTheGame Reddit declared today as "Gjallarhorn Freedom Wolfpack Pew Pew Boom Day" on account of the nearest Xur appearance to when he sold it again last year (about a week after I got it "legit" in Crota's End )
Unpacked the thing today as a mark of "oh go on then" respect and it's still absolutely great to use against almost anything actually, aside from high level stuff. Hateful Taken Captains melted nicely Had to run Promethean Code story on my hunter and when combined with Nightstalker tether on the final room dudes, completely smashed everything with one rocket Fantastic
I do hope that they don't make the 2.0 version in RoI a shadow of it's former / current self
Crappy mods on CoE this week and I could really use a decent helmet upgrade for the Titan, maybe next week ...

Yer 3 Gjally will function the same, the only real difference will be the velocity has been reduced significantly. At least, according to the stats in the Armory.
CoE modifiers this week made it look like it would be a bit of a chore, so I've skipped it entirely thus far in favour of doing... well, anything else. I've smashed through the weekly crucible bounties on my Hunter and Titan, got "meh" from those and done some Gunsmith ranking up as well. I'll be on this afternoon and looking to Raid, so if you fancy a shot at the HMG Moog, this may be your time!

I got shafted!
Everything in the Moments of Triumph is account based, ie it doesn't matter if you complete the Crucible quest on your Titan, then beat Hard Mode Oryx on your Warlock, it still counts.
Everything, that is, except getting all the Calcified Fragments. I finally beat Golgoroth Challenge mode on my Titan (group needed Defender) and received the final fragment I needed, but it seem that you need to get them all on one character rather simply across your account. Warlock is still sitting at 49/50, and despite having unlocked the entire Book of Sorrows grimoire, the game still won't credit me as having caught them all, so to speak.
So, I'll be taking another crack at Golgoroth tomorrow. With the Warlock this time!

Sims, that's correct I'm afraid. Calcified Fragments have always been character rather than account specific. There is a website out there that allows you to see what you've found with each character, destinycalcifiedfragments.com IIRC, something like that anyhow
Daft given everything else isn't. More artificial grind for the "completionists" out there i.e. certainly not me

Was only on for a bit this afternoon and logged off moments before Stimps wanted to run a NF (sorry about that timing, maybe tomorrrow?)If you're going for challenge Golgoroth though Sims, thanks for the offer but you probably don't want me on your Raid team. Lead weight without a clue probably covers my Raid proficiency (although I have watched a lot of vids on how to take down Warpriest in my defence )
