Has anyone come up against the Ise? It's like they made the best CV at tier 6, then gave it a battleship hull, guns and MM. I've played against it many times now, often with the enemy Ise wedged behind an island, focusing down a few enemy BBs before popping out at full health with 6 or 7 minutes to go, to clear up whatever is left.

The saving grace of tier 6 CVs is that mostly, they don't do a huge amount of damage per strike. It seems like bad game design that the Ise has such a huge alpha punch and good flood chance with its planes. It's a far stronger ship in a BB slot than any of it's competitors at tier 6, you'd think that it would somehow be compromised in order to be a hybrid ship, but nope.
A few nerfs incoming I suspect . . . not fought one yet as not playing too regularly at the moment.

The worst problem with the Ise is that it doesn't suffer from the usual CV limited number balance mechanics, so in a Tier 5-6 battle you can be facing 3 of them with all their planes.

Had a Tier 5-6 game last night against three Ise, two of whom were divved up and cross-dropping 8 torp spreads on every BB. Oh and two CVs per side as well. Basically impossible to do anything as every minute you were being attacked by planes.

Oh how I have missed the crossdrop since CV rework!

Except the attacked would lose planes doing it and those only had a few replacements. Could never manage it my self but I was certainly the recipient of some well placed cross drops while in DDs.

Has anyone had a go of the new Grand Battles mode? I dare say it is actually a lot of fun. I was initially skeptical but it has a lot of good ingredients - though it isn't perfect.

You've got the two "super battleships", which are basically tier 11 ships, the Satsuma and Hannover. Satsuma is a Shikishima with an extra turret and more health and the Hannover is a GK with 4 turrets and 2 x 483mm guns per turrent, like a super Bismarck and all of the secondary batteries converted to 2 x 128mm dual purpose guns. You need to earn tickets to play them, which you get by playing regular tech tree or premiums in the grand battle mode, every 5 games you play you'll earn enough resources to buy a ticket to play a super battleship, basically.

At first I thought having to play 5 games to play one of the special ships was too much, but I can see why they did it as if it took less resources to play, everyone would queue in the super ships and they'd either have really long waits to get into games or they'd have to increase the cap on the super ships per game, which I don't think would be good.

In practice, the games have smaller teams and take place on some of the smaller maps too, which means the action comes thick and fast, once the initial rush of DDs fighting in the middle of the map has taken place. I think because the teams are smaller, the maps are smaller and it's a special game mode, people aren't quite as afraid as they usually are to scratch the paint on their digital boats and there is fun to be had. Well, I've certainly enjoyed dumping 16 gun SAP salvos into Satsumas with my Cristoforo Colombo.

The only thing that doesn't work so well in my opinion is the special power thing they implemented. As you land shots on or near a target while playing as these ships, you fill up a meter that once full, activates a special skill that stays active for 45 seconds or whatever. I think for the Satsuma it increases accuracy for and for the Hannover it decreases secondary reload time. I can't comment on the Satsuma skill, but for the Hannover skill it never seemed to be active when I wanted it. Particularly as you close distance in the early to mid game, you'll be firing those big guns and the skill will activate, running out just as you reach the 12km mark to start lighting people up with the secondaries. I have had some success with it activating at useful times in the late game, but I'd prefer it if the skill could be charged and then deployed at a time selected by the player. Obviously, being able to choose when to use it would increase the effectiveness of the skill, so maybe they could decrease the active time of the skill in order to balance it somewhat.

Either way, I think it's a fun mode as people don't seem quite so uptight about getting into the fight. I would say it's fairly likely that we will see tier 11 ships in the game too, at some point, or at the very least, an expansion of the grand battles mode to include more of these super ships in the future. Wargaming certainly aren't lacking in imagination when it comes to inventing new ships.

I'm now over 6500 battles in and I was beginning to lose interest in the game.

The fun battles in a full secondary Bismarck are well and truly gone now. Even my trusty Cossack was hard work due to being bottom tier almost every game.

I tried a few T9's - Friesland, Alaska + others - but I didn't really gel with any of them.
I was sitting on top of loads of coal so I got the Neustrashimy cool

The zombie heal is hilarious. Combined with the special russian captain, I've survived situations I had no right to.
Got my WoWs mojo back, for now...

There was a media event on Monday on HMS Belfast - no I did not get an invite smile - but The Mighty Jingles did then was told they were not allowed to record or take photos at the event and also it is under a NDA until later this week or some time next. Suspect they did not want a st storm getting out as I suspect it was the announcement that submarines will be introduced in to the main game (despite the promises they would not do so).

I don't mind submarines being in the game, but it needs to be in specific modes/operations I think.

Given how bad submarines make the gameplay, they definitely need to be confined to their own mode and not mixed in the general random queue.

The changes to CV rocket attacks, which were likely made to protect subs against them, have had an inadvertent effect on gameplay, with BB numbers down and cruiser and DD numbers up. The game has improved and become more fun as an unintended consequence of Wargaming's action. I expect this situation will be rectified at some point.

I don't know if anyone else here played NavyFields, but I did on the Euro servers (Pirates Fleet - main sever then moved to second server when that started up). Was a growing game, they had even expanded to a third server (from just one) for Europe in a couple of years, as well as a number in the US and South Korea (where the game owners were based). Subs were announced and we, the community warned against them. Subs were launched. Within a year NFEU were back from three to just 1 server and the game was closed within about another year (someone in China has bought the rights and relaunched it and subs still make it unplayable). Thing is the powers that be actually looked at trying to make a balanced game, with the work being done by a group of tested from the US (NFUS) an the EU (NFEU) servers - I was actually part of that group for around a year before stepping back (did not have the time to put in to it as we were actively testing once to twice per week) and they always had CVs in the game and made them work in a very balanced way. Still they would not listen to us over subs as a few loud voices on the forums wanted them and the company (eFusion) had spent the money on the development work.

Even WarThunder only had submarines as an April Fools event where they had their own games, and the WT devs thought adding helicopter gunships to a tank game would be a good idea hehe

The problem with WG is that they typify the worst aspects of old school USSR "We know best" mentality. They are arrogant, out of touch and completely unwilling to admit they make mistakes and will push ahead with any change, no matter how damaging it will be, once they have spent money developing it.

The tales coming from their former US employees are telling. Their former US community manager recently made a video talking about how bad they are as am employer.

I played NavyField in...2004-2005 maybe? A long time ago. Decent game for what it was at the time. Manual FCS aiming took a LOT of skill, I think I had the most fun running around in a Q-class destroyer with triple turrets....until getting blockshotted and one-hit by a Nelson. I do remember the training wasn't great so the best way to learn was just to chuck yourself into the organised chaos with all the torps flying about.
