Thanks for the nudge. I'm not knowledgeable about games, but want to give my nephew a PS5 for combined xmas, birthday, wedding gift. I'd love some guidance as to what specification to buy. Black or white? Are there options which a 17 year old would need? (he can be a bit hard to get definitive answers from)
Thoughts would be welcome. !

Look on reddit, lots of people removing the white covers and painting/wrapping/plastidipping them.THere was one company who were making whole new covers in different covers before the thing was even released - they got a cease & desist order from Sony. I think there is another company doing them now though and seemed quite sure they couldn't suffer the same fate.

That was platestation (replacement parts, bad). They are now customizemyplates (vinyl skins you apply yourself, good)kevinon said:

If you can afford "the white one" which means it comes with a disc drive, then get that option. The benefit is you can buy 2nd hand games from ebay and cex and play them for much better prices than the £60+ brand new prices. It also means if you had some top titles from the Ps4, you can just put them in the ps5 disc drive and play them with the extra horsepower of the Ps5. You may want to buy a second controller or a headset but neither are mandatory to enjoy the console as one person.

It seems not and apparently other areas are in the same situaiton.
Can't help but think someone's dropped the ball here, 2 months out from launch and there's been no stock for a month and seemingly no sign of any soon. Apparently their manufacturing facilities are highly automated (one that built PS4s could be run by 3 or 4 people making a machine every few minutes). Either production has been paused or they've got some big shipping issues.
There were stories around about high rate of failures of the AMD chips back last year - maybe they were true and they had a stockpile of machines at launch, which has now run out and they're not able to manufacture enough to keep supply lines going ?
Seems very unclear at the moment when stock is being shipped or when it'll arrive, but the way its going its going to be Q2 before there is a regular supply I think.

I bought some vinyl and wrapped mine, was a bit of a nightmare doing the disc side so I've ordered some more to have another go as its a bit like the surface of the moon atm but I have it laying down anyway.The side that looks alright https://imgur.com/a/XB5IxcV

Up to max level 30 now and allegators are easy meat. I think I've done the game the wrong way round though as I didn't focus on the missions but have been collecting everything instead. Now I've started working through the story and it feels like I'm massively overpowered. Flat6er said:
