Yeah. Bots are scum. Already offers above 900 for a screenshot of an order confirmation on eBay.
I know in the scheme of things, pandemic all that shiz, this is small potatoes. But it really feels like Sony could have done a far better job of this. 60 days post launch and people are still unable to even get a clue when stock is arriving so they can play "beat the bot".
There is fk all else to do at the moment so demand is high. Just not high enough to feed the scalpers.

So John Lewis dropped this morning at around 9am, Were sold out in under 60 Secs, (bots most probably, Then GAME dropped at 10am, i just happened to refresh the page at 10, and was put straight in a que which i was in for 2 mins, then i was in.
I only wanted the Disk console, which was out of stock straight away, so i had to get a 'bundle' which was a console with an extra controller and managed to secure an order. Finally no more refreshing 8 different sites for me.

Sadly it’s out of Sony’s hands too. I know in the scheme of things, pandemic all that shiz, this is small potatoes. It’s game, curry’s ect which should be working on it.
Also people need to stop buying off the scalpers.
I understand it’s crap but I’m in the same boat. Trying to get a ps5 since launch. No way I’m paying over retail.
Happily wait it out.
Crazy that the shortage hasn't let up, even now. Not just PS5 either - just about any 'in-demand' item is nearly impossible to get hold of at 'normal price' any more. I fully expected the pre-Christmas shortages and price spikes on consoles and gfx cards but thought that it would be showing clear signs of easing by now.
Given the way that the economy is going, I think that higher prices of some kind are going to be here to stay. You can see PC gfx card suppliers re-price their new cards for example.
There's a deluge of freshly printed money being dumped into the markets/economy and lots of people stuck working at home with little to spend their cash on, accumulating disposable income.

Yeah I was certain you'd be able to get one with a little bit of effort by the end of January, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I don't plan on buying till around September anyway so it doesn't really make a difference to me, just very surprised that they're not much easier to get hold of.

Semi conductor shortage globally, some sectors such as car manufacturers cancelled their orders early covid and now are running out, so who ever pays the most will be prioritised. And margins on many other products will be higher than consoles.https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry-news/g...
I wonder if like BMW Z8 prices a few years ago, scalpers have worked out if they continue to buy up the whole stock it'll allow them to control the market price.
The ease and the reward have seen the number of scalpers increase 1000 fold i'd imagine moving away from trainers and live event tickets to now anything which there is a trend and significant demand

2 large drops yesterday. Amazon. All gone in less than 5 mins. No alert from amazon. Relied on the twitter feeds checking live stock. No joy.
Also Argos dropped overnight. Argos restricted to collect only. And managed to spread the sales locally over several hours. But alas all gone by 7am..
This morning studio had a few but the que-it page page filled immediately and timed out so I guess demand outstripped supply again.
Quest continues.

Surely all this supply/demand problem really isn't in Sony's best interest?
We now have the situation where there are thousands of consoles now sitting in Scalper's warehouses / garages. These consoles have been 'sold', yes - and the monies on their way to Sony...but don't these manufacturers normally make a loss on every console sold? Money is made on the games / DLC. All the time these consoles are sitting unopened and not powered on, they are not making money for Sony.
It seems like the manufacturers need to address this somehow (I don't have the answers!) Maybe pre-orders can go through Sony for say the first 3 months, whereby they can control distribution and 1 or 2 orders max per address, and address the bot problem with better CAPTCHA etc.

Would only become a problem is the Xbox Series S/X was easily available to get, as people would just go for that rather than the PS5.
The new Resident Evil demo looked decent, looking forward to eventually playing that. Think I need to start making a list of the PS games I want to play when I do eventually get a PS5, reckon it'll be at some point in the summer just before Fifa comes out.
