Looks like fun, I've just looked it up. £24.99 on Steam, £3.79 on CD Keys for a Steam code. Hmmmm
Does it work natively?
I already picked up goose game. Great
suggestion thanks

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is probably the single best example but it's not native and would take some work to get running on the Deck
Plenty of detailed guides on getting BOTW running on the deck. Took me maybe a few hours but I made my own life difficult by not using a KB&M or the recommended SD card method of Cemu installation.Edited by ch37 on Friday 6th January 09:45
Quite satisfying to tinker away and get it running.
It is very satisfying, so much you can do with it and it's so open. My main difficulty was getting BCML working to install Second Wind, some good guides out there but things change quickly and I'm a M1 Mac user, so had to find numerous workarounds to a very Windows heavy process.
Emu Deck is hugely impressive, we spend more time on the 'Gamecube' than we do actually playing Steam games.

Going to treat myself to one of these. I'm a bit of a lapsed console gamer, but play games on my phone daily.
Probably get the 512gb, any other essentials? Case cover? Memory card? Gear to play on hotel screens?
The included case is pretty good. Probably get the 512gb, any other essentials? Case cover? Memory card? Gear to play on hotel screens?
It's not the type of device that has high risk of screen scratch unless you have kids
I bough the 64gb version and a 20 quid microsd card and apparently it takes 10secs longer to boot big games but I haven't noticed any difference to internally stored games.
No idea about docks. I find the small screen surprisingly immersive and unsure if the image would upscale well? But a dock is on my shopping list and interesting in tips

I went with the 64 and upgraded the ssd myself to 512. Probably get the 512gb, any other essentials? Case cover? Memory card? Gear to play on hotel screens?
Comes with a case which is fine.
Get a decent SD card yes.
The dock is out now but I don't have one so cant comment but from the reviews I have seen the deck will run ok at 1080.
I am using mine most days, usually in the afternoon I sit down for an hour or so. Battery life is good and I have yet to scratch the surface with its capabilities.

Might be a different story if I had a giant 65" screen of course.
Using an Xbox Series S|X joypad via Bluetooth when docked to TV and it works great - unfortunately the Deck doesn't seem to like the official MS USB dongle. Had some bad issues on devices with BT joypads before but so far the Xbox controller/Steamdeck combo is rock solid. The Deck even seems to recognise that it is an actual Xbox controller as I get the little 'X' icon for menu on the main screen.
I reckon if valve made a dedicated TV box with a wee bit more power (6x cores vs 4x, more CUs - maybe 10 or 12 vs 8 currently) and put SteamOS on it, they'd have a winner. It'd be sort of like an 'open' Xbox Series S.

I've been using the Deck on my TV in the living room via the official dock (I have a portable hub thing that works too) and it outputs 720p by default. I have to say that on my 40" 1080p telly., it looks great even with me sitting relatively close for gaming, closer than normal TV viewing distance. I could faff around with games to re-set them to 1080p output and take a performance hit but I have no visual issues playing stuff at 720p res so happy (lazy) enough to leave it at that.

For those into Emu Deck, TOCA Race Driver 3 (PS2) runs at 60fps and out of the box the steering is absolutely perfect for the Steam Deck controls or an attached Dual Shock.
I tried a few such as Auto Modellista and the controls were absurdly oversensitive, but TOCA 3 is honestly the best driving experience I've had on the Deck full stop, even versus modern games on the Steam Store.
Bonus points for a bunch of UK circuits (including Castle Combe), a load of obscure championships and British GT during the Marcos / Mosler / Morgan era.

The official dock is expensive, and it has the downside that the cables (at least the power supply, hdmi, and docking station to deck) all connect to the back of the dock. When the deck is on the dock it hides the cables, but when the deck isn't on the dock it looks quite untidy. It wouldn't be too bad on a computer desk, but it's not ideal if you're going to put it under your tv in the lounge. If you use a third party usb docking station, you can hide the docking station and the cables, and you only need to have one usb cable visible. You can buy or 3d print a separate stand if you want one.

The USP of the official dock, apart from being the official one that gets firmware updates direct from the Deck, is the 2x video outputs (HDMI and DP). That should make it more viable if you want to use the Deck as an occasional low-powered desktop PC which at some stage I will do when I get my desktop set up. Currently I'm using a little fanless mini-PC for a daily driver when I don't want to fire up the power guzzling main box for games. At some point I'll just dock the Steamdeck and hook up a Windows boot disk for those duties.

As someone who doesn't really do Nintendo, I do fancy a game that is similar to Breath of the Wild.
Any Suggestions?
I did buy Kena : Bridge of Spirits and am enjoying it so far.
Any other options?
I can't be bothered with Emulation so looking for native games.
Cheers
Horizon: Zero Dawn probably. Regularly on sale too and for me runs great on the Deck.Any Suggestions?

It's actually the opposite of Breath of the Wild in terms of how much it lets you do (see that knee high rock over there? You ain't crossing it if the game doesn't want you to go that way) but it's still an open world game and in terms of story, controls etc and just general design and polish it's one of very few games that has given me the same feeling as playing BotW.
In terms of freedom, probably Elden Ring, but for me I prefer a slightly less dark/depressing world so I never got into that the same way.
