Has anyone tried CP 2077 on the steam deck? I know it is a much improved game now-a-days so wondering what it's like on a hand-held, as I'm considering one instead of upgrading the xbox or PS to the latest gen.
Yup. It is easily playable and looks decent. I found it overheated the GPU a lot and sometimes I would play it for an hour and then the frame rate would drop to 6fps so I learned to just switch it off and go and do something else for a bit. Randomly, it happened less frequently if it had the power plugged in but I cannot explain why.I am struggling with my SteamDeck now I have finished CP2077. I am probably going to sell it to get a PS Portal as I am enjoying my PS5 and can never be bothered with DIY set up on home PCs. I just want to click play and it works rather than having to try and find the right settings.
I'm still on the fence about these things.... I did nearly buy one then backed off.
I've been playing Cyberpunk on my tablet/laptop via GeForce now and I have to say its been a thoroughly excellent experience. Particularly with a controller its basically like playing it locally (I do have a good internet connection). At the moment I just use the free 1 hour tier but £8/mo or whatever it works out to for the priority tier where I can have 6 hours and use Ray Tracing is very tempting. You can run 1080p, all the bells and whistles and at 60 FPS for the most part.
I did think about getting a Logitech G Cloud instead but even at £200 used they're really too expensive for what they are. I think I may just go for a new XBOX wireless controller to replace my knackered PS4 one and just stick to playing on my tablet (11 inch Tab S9 with 120Hz hi-res OLED).
The only benefit of the Deck would be that you could continue to play the game "off-line" albeit at lower resolution and lower settings.
I can't believe really how good Cyberpunk is and how good it looks.

Still use my Steamdeck most nights and don’t have GeForce now anymore …
I still play mine a couple of times a week. Very good overall experience and I am sure the next gen will step things up.
They defo come into their own when travelling.
I play the latest F1 game and it runs a rock solid 60fps. Pretty impressive. Sure its only 720p (ish) but on such a small screen its fine.
1080, 3hr battery and a bit thiner / lighter would be perfect for SD2.

It goes against your thinner/lighter, but for around £40 you can get a 20,000mAh battery bank that clips on the back of a Steam Deck, the internal battery is just over 5000mAh so it would be adding about 4x more capacity.Edit: Prime day soon so I''m going to make a note to look out for one then.

Yeah I have an anker PD power bank that will run it for ages.
IIRC the CEO said the next version will have 2x the battery capacity.
Not due out for a couple of years though.
I do wonder though, given ASUS have managed to pack 80Wh into the Ally X, whether Valve may do yet another update or perhaps offer an upgrade by offering a higher density battery cell. Its 50Wh now but imagine if they could nip it up to 65 Wh or something.IIRC the CEO said the next version will have 2x the battery capacity.

I’ve been interested in this device for a while but still not pulled the trigger yet.
I’m looking for something that I can sit on the couch with & game while the mrs watches her crap on tv
I’m a pick up & play for an hour or so gamer & mostly been on Xbox
Would you recommend the deck or any of its competitors
Thanks

Steam Deck is brilliant for this, exactly what I use mine for, I'm still on an old LCD one but it's still a great device. Recently played through CP2077, currently on with No Mans Sky mixed with Dirt 2 and a bit of Rocket League, all play brilliantly on the Deck.I’m looking for something that I can sit on the couch with & game while the mrs watches her crap on tv

Sunshine encodes and streams using the exact technology that Nivdia created for GeForce Now - which means it works best with Nvidia cards, but you can run it with others.
It will stream Steam Big Picture or, just the whole desktop - whatever you want.
Love it. No noticeable lag and negligible reduction in picture quality (only really notice a little softening of text on a 4k desktop).

I have sunshine installed on my PC and stream to moonlight clients elsewhere in the house - and there are clients for pretty much anything. Android TV clients will run on Google dongles or the Nvidia Shield. There are clients for phones. There's a client for AppleTV. I have and Android phone client installed on my Retroid retro emulation handheld... All controller etc. inputs from the client just get streamed back to the sunshine server. I'd be amazed if there wasn't a client for SteamOS.

This is how I mostly play on my deck - especially with newish games.Sunshine encodes and streams using the exact technology that Nivdia created for GeForce Now - which means it works best with Nvidia cards, but you can run it with others.

No Mans Sky looks amazing on the steam deck, but it runs the battery down quickly and puts out a lot of heat. If I stream via Moonlight, the steam deck stays cool, the graphics are better again and the battery lasts hours.
Same for Witcher 3 and Forza Horizon 5. I tend to play less intensive games like Kingom - Two Crowns, Dave the Diver and emulators on the deck itself.
Don't forget that Steamlink streaming is also built into the deck - but ironically they have made it less straightforward to use than running an application like Moonlight. Basically, you can opt to stream any game from your Steeam library that's on your PC (assuming the PC is up and running Steam).
To launch the game on your PC (instead of the deck) and play on the deck, select the game on the Steamdeck.
Then click on the little inverted triangle next to the 'play' button for the game. This will open a dropdown menu with a list of what you can run the game from. The top entry will be 'this Steam Deck' and underneath will be any PCs up and running Steam on the network.
If you click the name of the PC you will be dropped back to the previous screen but instead of the 'play' button it now says 'stream'.
