Injectors back in now. Looking better than it did when I removed the plenum. Dizzy next, then plenum.

Plenum installed and all piped up, air filter box cleaned up and internal plate rivets changed to stainless. Getting closer.

All engine bay electrics re-taped, connected and tie wrapped to chassis. New earth straps and battery cables installed. Radiator cleaned up ready for re-installation. Bearing type upgrade to steering column needed adapter plate making to suit the S1.

Need to get a new heater matrix push/pull cable as old one seized.

Anyone come up with a good alternative for the gearstick rubber gaiter, can’t find anything on internet that looks like it might do the job.

Just have to connect the heater matrix hoses, fill with fluids and oils then give her a whirl. Before and after photo of the engine bay.

Minor point but S1 owner to S1 owner! Easily overlooked but did you renew the pop rivets inside the air filter box, the ones on the downstream of the air filter in particular. Corroded rivets are a know S1 problem and can give rise to airflow issues (as well as the box dropping off!!) Next is to be super sure there are no cracks where the air meter cover forms into the start of the pipe to the throttle, a regular fail point and getting very hard to replace. Unless the pipe is supported you can imagine how much it flops around and eventually fractures the cover. A bit of extra sikaflex or similar additional strengthening is worth considering.

Thanks for the tips.

Changed the rivets to stainless ones on the filter, some had come off already and the rest on their way out.

With regards the metering intake which I think you’re referring to (as circled below). There was a couple of splits that have been glued, these are where the wide Miklar clamps are so hopefully well supported now. I agree the support of the hose is a bit non existent, but the fuel lines provide some support and seem rigid.

Appreciate you may have sorted this by now but just incase you haven't. Assuming you have the same gearbox and TVR bodge, er, engineered linkage as the 2.9 V6 S

Still got to sort the gearstick gaiter, mine has definitely see better days. your solution looks like a very good get around, so thanks for the info.

The classic mini gaiter also looks like it could be a good starting point.

Racetech did have some manufactured (originally a Ford Sierra part)

https://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/car-parts/body-tr...

And if you think 40 quid is a bit pricey try 15000 yen, about £90!

I hope other S1 owners see this as you have also had that problem with the pop rivets. So simple but it messed up the air meter.

The mikalor clips are always better than jubilee. The crack normally starts underneath, under and to the left of the mikalors in your pic.

I did find a gear lever gaiter in Car Builder Solutions catalogue which has worked well for quite a few years now.

This is the only one I could find. Looks a bit chunky.

Well, the first turn of the key didn’t go to plan

Fuel pump sounds like its got gravel in it, hopefully just needs priming.

Starter motor doesn’t do anything at all. Don’t know if it was working before and stupidly didn’t test it. So that’s going to have to come off.

Keep plodding on.

Hammer to the starter didn’t do anything, neither did direct power to the tab. So removed it and took to a local guy, he tested it and solenoid not working. Took the alternator for a refurb to him as well as that probably needs a service.

Got a new fuel pump too, so hopefully next weekend we will be able to hear it splutter into life for the first time in 15 or so years.
