Hello all,

My car has a rather tired hood. It's OK for the moment, but the rear window is no longer transparent. So the questions are:

Has anyone had the rear window replaced? is it worth it and who can do it; and
Assuming I am going to have to replace it soon, any recommendations for the complete hood? prices seems to vary hugely. I am assuming that has to do with how complete the item is (extrusions etc)

I have a Griffith and tried to get the window replaced as someone local had it replaced. The place I took it to wanted it off the hoop. It was easy enough getting the lower part off the frame. The upper part just tore easily. It also delaminated as the mohair which is 3 layers. I am now going down the new hood route. I am getting it from BAS International who have already sent samples. They use Sonnenland fabric.

Hi, I’m new here but in need of some help please. I have an 280 S1.5 and the gear stick has just snapped off at the base. I managed with the help of AA to get home but I now have the issue of repair. Any top tips please or ideas where I can get spares. I have tried Motoclan and tvrspares.co.uk.

Probably better to ask in the S section Scot. Or in engine and drive train section.

Hi Scot, post the problem as a completely new topic (green 'button' at the top of the forum) and you may get more assistance.

I haven't got a picture to hand of the gear stick assembly but from memory it's a pretty simple affair. Basically a standard type nine gear stick with an 's' shaped section welded on to move the gear stick back a bit in the TVR. It's a simple affair to remove and I'm sure it could be very easily re-welded, if that's where yours is broken? Get a picture up of the problem if it's not as I have described.

Sorry if I wasn't paying attention, but these guys have done more TVRs than I've had hot dinners. Obviously you will need to book a night away (or two) but it's worth it!

Don't bother trying to contact via the website, ring Guy. In fact, the website must be quite new, they don't 'do' modern tech!

To remove the cover you need to use a hot air gun carefully to soften the glue used to hold it in place.
It needs removing from the hoop and rear trim so as the fabric can be fed into the sewing machine to do the window repair.

Thanks Rob. I am bumping this again as, having had to drive the car to work this morning in the rain I have decided to get the roof done ASAP.
The Mazda hood company ( now all hoods) is relatively near me in Romford. Does anyone have experience of using them. My plan is to go down the supply and fit route as I just don’t have the patience to do this myself to a high standard.

Does anyone know of anywhere else local to Bishops Stortford that they would recommend?

Thanks

Have you tried T-Cut? Very often an opaque rear screen can be polished clear again with just T-Cut and elbow grease.

Good idea, sadly the rear screen has now cracked along a fair length so I have booked the S3 in for a new hood on Saturday

Well a beautiful sunny morning and lovely country roads for a blast down from Epping to Romford to drop the car off with Brian at All Hoods. Two other TVRs in there for work and all sorts of other interesting stuff. Hopefully getting the car back next week end and being able to see out the rear window will be a novelty!

I hadn’t planned getting the hood done yet but it splitting on me a few days ago really meant I couldn’t put it off any longer.
