My S2 has been popped at the back at some point (well several time I think looking at the mis mash of panels), the repair is starting to crack running down the side of the numberplate and then down past the ridge adjacent to the exhaust.

I have tried once to repair it with some sucess - it looked OK for the first 2k and now it is showing a crack.

Anyone know how to repair it ...... without changing the rear end!

Thanks.

Hi Steve

It's not particularly hard to do, just slightly involved. Firstly you will need to re-inforce the area behind the crack ie in the boot. You could possibly use a glass fibre repair kit from Halfords or the like. This should help to stop any cracks from re-appearing. Cover a reasonable area, at least 150mm either side. If this gives a fairly solid feel to the area, you should be able to cut back and remove the gelcoat to about a quarter inch either side of the crack and then use a good flexible car body filler. A more permanent and possibly more favourable method is to fill using gelcoat, it's a bit tricky to work with as it's fairly liquid when applied. We used to keep it in with sellotape until it cured, then sand down carefully as per normal. It may be as wise to find a GRP body repair specialist to do it for you, though. I can't see it being expensive.
