To S or to S2..that is the question

It doesn't stop there as the 2.8 cars speedo is mechanical and the 2.9 is electronic and they need different sensors on the gearbox. This is also an input to the ECU so you can't get round it.
As for unleaded, the 2.8 should have been made after 1983/4/5 and should have the unleaded friendly heads already. Easy enough to check. The details are in the bible and on my website.
To be absolutely honest, cannot see any real advantage in switching over unless you have a free engine or fancy doing some twiddling. It will make the car non-standard and so on. Lots of things to consider - see the upgrade vs tradeup article in this month's Sprint that goes through the pro's and cons. Anyway, it is a lot of work but not that difficult if someone is set on doing it.
