What makes them really stand out is the two b*gg*rs with a note book saying "ello ello, where's the race then sonny Jim"
[/quote]

Or in my case a few years back "Who do you think you are then, Sterling Moss?"

To which my very helpful passenger answered (before I could answer myself);

"No, Ari Vatanen, the flying Finn".

(We were in a fully stage rally prepared vehicle, very late at night, spot lights and intercom headsets on, having a bit of a play while shaking the car down ahead of an event).

Unfortunately the officer knew exactly who Ari Vatanen was (which actually impressed me quite a lot!).

However the officer in question suffered a sense of humour failure at that point and I spent 20 minutes in the back of his unmarked car before being let off with a producer.

Nowadays speeding on main roads is just asking for trouble really, no chance of spotting all of the unmarked cars which are out there (as I have previously posted, java green Mercedes Sprinter in Cornwall with blacked out rear windows for example!). Either stick to 80ish on the mains or accept that you will end up with points in the future.

Could be another thread topic here, how many people do you know who have no points?

Ari, My Hero!! My favorite Ari memory is the old Black Shell Oils Escort he used on the Manx. One of 7 built by the factory, Very Very special cars. The drivers had to make sure they were not parked next to any other Mk2's!!!!

Best thing is to not be the fastest car on the road, dc's are the worst place to go fast, just stay at 80ish, somewhere around 90 odd on m/way's just keeping with the other "criminals"

This week - 9 Sept 07

Blue Volvo estate V70, been around for a while.
Silver Subaru Forrester - very well converted, small clear lights that look like indicators in the bumpers but are actually the blue lights. New 07 plate

Both seen in the Exeter to Bridgewater stretch of the M5

Plus watch for the new camera van - white transit that i saw sitting on the A38 bridge for the Totnes, Dartington turnoff at Buckfastleigh

Think they might be 1 down as a Silver Skoda police car was involved in a serious accident north of Tiverton last weekend.

They still have the dark blue V70 estate in and around Bodmin/A30

I saw a silver new shape 3 series on the M4 go flying past me a few weeks back with two lights in the blacked out rear window.

oh and this list may be of interest to thos in Devon/Cornwall

sorry, yes. Thought I'd written that in but clearly not. It was also an 05 plate, which surprised me with the mileage they must do.

I got the shock of my life this week - in the rear view mirror

A SILVER FORD FOCUS ST - Looked completely standard except for the blue lights flashing me from behind the grill.

Thank god i pulled in & he flew past, i then followed him down to the Plymouth turn off from the A38

No extra mirrors & a plain clothes driver with a hand held radio, no aeriels
