A group of 4 friends have embarked on a charity walk from Lands End to John O'Groats and started this week on Monday 8th March and hope to reach John O'Groats mid April. They are all aged 20 and have direct or family connections with their chosen charities that they're raising money for. These are Make a Wish, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research and Downs Syndrome Association. So far they've raised £17,000 and hope to increase it to £25,000.

Tonight they are in Wadebridge and hope to walk to Launceston tomorrow and reach Exeter by the weekend. I believe the weather is a bit nasty at the moment so to boost there spirits if anyone sees 2 or 3 lads walking on the A39/A395/A30 and beyond, with a red Ford Sierra support car, give them a toot. If anyone can offer direct help such as places to stay or to shelter if the weather gets worse or just a bite to eat please ring John Cassidy on the walk on 07957750129.

Also if anyone can suggest who I can contact with regard to local radio/press etc to gain support and overnight accommodation stops for the lads please let me know or maybe someone in your area has connections!?

Hopefully I can move this thread to the regions as they go. All help appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Mark

The main radio stations are Pirate Radio for Cornwall and Radio Devon and Gemini FM for devon/Exeter. The three main publications are the Western Morning News, Evening Herald and the Express and Echo, hope this may help?

Update, they're in Okehampton. Off to Exeter tomorrow so if anyone can help with accommodation or even a pint to keep 'em going.

Thanks for the interest. They're halfway up the west coast of Scotland. I heard from them last week and I think they spent all their budget earlier than expected but being youngsters they're getting by. The plan was to be in John O'Groats for next weekend but I think it'll be a few days after as I imagine that area will be tough going. I expect to get an update this weekend.

Cheers

They're doing it for Make a Wish, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research and Downs Syndrome Association. The lads themselves or immediate families have had direct connection to these charities hence the choices.

Fair play! I'm a member of Plymouth Round Table and we do a lot for a Children's Wish, my mother died from cancer and my dad is hospital from a heart attack so by all means forward me some correspondence and I'll chuck my four-penneth in!
