I'm due on a stag do in September , so I thought I would pop along to PH NWers and see where to go and avoid. Could do with some bars , nightclubs and some where for food. Is the tram worth using to get round the city ?

Wouldn't bother with the team, the city centre is small enough to walk from place to place. Lots of bars and decent places for food, depends what your after. Burger places seem the thing at the moment. Lots of bars in differant areas, spinningfields is nice but smart, deansgate locks and printworks are good for groups but chavy. Northern quarter, lots of nice bars and real ale about, people say it's for hipsters! Something for everyone!

Grill on the Alley or Restaurant Bar and Grill always popular or plenty of curry options - as it's an all male stag night I would make a booking or else you might not have much joy getting in, especially after a few drinks
Sky Bar for early drinks would be good - but unless you can VIP it or get on the guest list if you go at peak time there is often a long wait (maybe that's just me...)
The other option might be Sepporo Teppakyaki on Liverpool Road - which can be fun for a decent sized group

As a general area I'd recommend Spinningfields. Get yourself a table booked in advance at somewhere like Neighbourhood or Artisan.

Northern Quarter is also a great area and as above I'd avoid Deansgate Locks as it's rather chavvy these days - unless that floats your boat!

Another suggestion for Spinningfields. But as mentioned, make a booking to avoid disappointment. If it helps, try looking at Design My Night

PrintWorks is a no go, it's full of knobbers.

South nightclub is worth a look if you're into a bit of indie music.

Clint Boon used to be the DJ there on a Saturday so very Manchester!!

Grill on the Alley is good, as is Panama Hattys, and away from the chavvy bits for you to all enjoy in relative peace. Deansgate has a good variety of bars and clubs, although as mentioned Spinningfields is probably better if only to avoid the prospect of seeing trouble. The city centre is not that bad, but when problems occur they tend to carry on for a bit.
In terms of getting in anywhere, you might struggle a bit if it's a big group. Of course you could always "temporarily" split into smaller groups to make it easier.

Get on the train and go to Liverpool! A much better party town for a stagdo.

Depending on the type of person you are -

Rowdy, and a piss up then go to Printworks, Deansgate, or Deansgate Locks (not the same place as Deansgate).

Down to earth and generally a nice person then Northern Quarter or Spinningfields.

Spinningfields has a small number of bars and restaurants (relatively expensive), Neighbourhood and Artisan can be expensive, however there is wagamma's etc, Oast house tends to get a mixed crowd. You can spend an evening in Spinningfields no problems (drinks, meal and more drinks). The door staff don't tend to take any messing about. It's a cool crowd kinda place.

Northern quarter, again a cool crowd place. Loads of bars (boutique, no chains). The door staff dont take any messing about either. All the BBQ places are in Norther Quarter. Solito (solita?) is really good - they all get busy so book it out.

Personally I would do Deansgate locks and deansgate during the day, then onto norther quarter. Solita for dinner, then Blu bar, then across the road to the v. busy cocktail bar, Odd bar, Trof, then end up in Blackdog ballroom.

I'd second this. Liverpool Rd, nr Castlefield/Deansgate/Locks has three decent pubs, Akbars restaurant and the MOSI Air & Space hall. Close to the Comedy Store and Hilton.

Plenty of Bars & food options in The Northern Quarter - getting less cool and more chavvy these days though, largely thanks to stag & hen doos it has to be said!

I read this with interest, but didn't check the dates.

I'm thinking of doing something similar in June, so quite serendipitous!

Warning lots of the places mentioned now closed or changed names. General areas remain the same spinning fields smart. Deansgate locks for the people. Northern quarter. Hipster and tatty in my personal view. And finally print works. Which I have never really got.
