Either way, the pictures remind me how bloody gorgeous it is up there and how much I miss it!

Drove 2038 miles all round trip including the NC500 over 8 nights. This was my 5th time. Very busy with motor homes this time. Condition of roads worsening too. Good time but I think I did it in the past at it’s best.

Very smile

A similar boat moored opposite my house a few nights ago. Crew came ashore in their tender for supplies. Returned and must have spent an uncomfortable night as the loch was more than choppy. Very uneven swell.

Just returned from Highlands road trip, loads of great driving roads with views, best section must be Ullapool up to Kylesku , stunning.

Just back from a week’s NC500. Done in a ‘99 Boxster and really wouldn’t like to do it in anything wider especially if you go off piste eg what the locals call the Wee Mad Road from Achiltibuie to Lochinvar then the B869 north of Locinvar to Kylescu. Both stunning but very twisty and single track.

It is a corker!
yes - It has an interesting background. When it was first built it wasn't a public A road - https://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/index.php?titl...

A mate lived over the far side of the MOD section, and we drove that road flat out every time. It took some getting used to following him past police cars at 100mph+. "It's fine, they don't care." he assured me. Being MOD police, they had no interest in speeders, especially ones in local (familiar) cars. Haven't been over there for years, so don't know if you can still get away with that sort of sillyness, but what a road!

I remember the armed guard posts at each end when it was mod only.

Is that what this wee bothy on the Northern Access Road to Coulport was for? - https://goo.gl/maps/gUujvVXKgPTwSKwH7
Whatever its function it has a somewhat neglected appearance. I wonder why it's still there.

It's still there for a once every year occasion whereby that part of the road between the Whistlefield hill roundabout and Coulport is closed for one day (often New Year's Day).
That validates the MoD's ownership of the road and the ability, if ever needed, to close that road, probably without the need to apply for a council order.

Went from JOG to Durness.
Roads are poor. Passing places have eroded and a lot of the roads that you could get 2 past are eroded at the edges and becomes a single track lane. Took 3.5 hours. I’ve never seen so many camper vans in my life. Sick of seeing the colour white now.
