I'm a long time lurker on PH and haven't posted very much but I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out.

I found out today that a good friend of mine who has been fighting multiple myeloma (bone marrow) cancer for 5 years has been told to get his affairs in order as it's spreading to viciously for the treatment to work.

The poor guy has been through a stem cell transplant, bone marrow transplants, spinal surgery for pins and plates after his lower back disintegrated and more chemo/radio therapy than most over the last 5 years. He’s only in his mid 40’s and has a 7 year old little boy.

I’ve not seen him for a while so I’m off to Wales this weekend or next for a visit. He’s got an old car he’s been trying to finish restoring but now can’t so I’m going to try and do it for him, hopefully in time for him to see it done. Unfortunately, he’s not been very lucky recently so he doesn’t have the means to send it in somewhere to get done.

It does need much. a new CV gator or driveshaft swap out, steering rack boots securing back onto the rack and a few little jobs to tidy it up. I've got all the tools necessary to do it and can move the car on my trailer.

If I can hire a ramp somewhere in North Wales or North West England to do it then it would save me trailering it to Glasgow where I live. I've spoken to a few garages around the area and none seem to be able to help out quickly. I really don't mind doing the work but it would be really nice to not have to bring it all the way back to Glasgow and then take it back once finished.

Does anyone happen to know of any such places that would hire a ramp? I’ve Googled it and can see a few that used to exist but I’m not sure they still do - probably not as I've not been able to get through to them on the phone today.

Thanks,
David.

Sorry I can’t help - I am not aware of anything local to me, but you may be best going onto/joining a few local car enthusiast/club/rally FB pages in his area. Most of this kind of knowledge seems to have shifted to there these days, certainly in N. Wales. There are certainly lots of people who have ramps/lifts in lockups that may offer some assistance - particularly if they are local to his area.

Thanks.

After not getting much luck, I'm going to get his car on our trailer next week and move it to our place in Glasgow.

David.
