Engine bay revamp
Discussion
Hi All
Got a 1981 280i Tasmin, sounds lovely, looks lovely until that is you open up the bonnet. Engine bay is a sea of ugly black rubber hoses and wires and just looks tired and old. I'm looking at the usual blue silicone hoses and the like but does anyone have any other ideas/photos of what can be done?
Thanks in advance
Julian

Thanks guys, both pics definitely the way I want to go. I'm new to TVR and the V6 cologne engine, so don't really know how far I can go with the engine bay; what's your opinion on a painted plenum? Too far? I've seen several videos online of them painted and think they look good and more importantly they look like a home DIY job!
I’m taking the engine bay clean up to the max lol
- oil filter now attached to oil pump so off the inner wing
- going Emerald so coil off the inner wing
- going Emerald so AFM going off inner wing (intake pipe will be engine mounted also)
- gas struts removed so another item off the inner wing
- re routed the cooling aka like the early griff / Chim so no swan neck and less overall coolant pipes and no wing mounted header tank
- re routed the fuel pipes so they now don’t exit the inner wing
I’m sure I’ve forgot stuff but less clutter is the aim of the game

Thanks mate...https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=11...
I think a good start is to degrease as much as you can, I only took off all mine and gave it the full works because most of it had to come off...leaky inlet manifold...rocker covers leaking...etc...and I do love a bit of polished alloy
The 350i has had the plenum and rockers painted, again as they had to come off to sort out the leaky fuel rail...
I have detailed a fair few sets but have pulled the cardboard spray booth down in my flat now....

Don't do it !. I'm looking at the usual blue silicone hoses
Black hoses, blue is 100% "Chav". Everything else clean and sparkling. Ford fitted alloy rocker covers to some of those 2.8 V6's, getting a bit scarce now (and expensive) but they do turn up occasionally and look good polished up.
Same covers on the later 2.9 engine, I went for "crackle black", maybe I should get the plenum done one day ....
